inspired at time of writing this song by The Mirror & the Light, a brilliant novel by the late Hilary Mantel - intending to make this epic I've mixed samples of John's slide guitar, which are a feature throughout.
goth epic mirror and the light
...some people get by with a little understanding, some people get by with a whole lot more...

think back to 1987 when Pseudo Echo got this cover of theirs on the Revenge of the Nerds movie soundtrack and if we don't think we've lost something special then we're crazy...and if we think that era is coming back anytime soon then we are complete fools...

Brian Canham is the lead singer of Pseudo Echo and one of the nicest and coolest guys in Aus rock and roll - his idea to take Lipps Inc's disco hit and turn it into a complete rock out earnt him the number 6 position on the Billboard US Hot 100 Chart in 1987. Sometimes, rock and roll dreams come true...very cool band!

photos featured, south east Queensland on dusk and south east Asia (Michelin star restaurant) - Part of Australia feels the wash of Asia across it, WA and the Territory (especially Darwin) yet all else is Oceania with that whole Coral Sea buzz, colonial architecture and more than a liberal dash of UK and European early influences...

Story behind the song
Wolf Hall, such a great title for any book led Hilary Mantel onto a further two books in the series culminating in The Mirror & the Light (which I think is the better of the three, no mean feat given the first two won the Booker, lol)
Lyrics
If you ever trusted me Could I take what wasn't mine And does that set you free Cause I am in your orbit I'm the one who blindly sees But I don't see you... Well, I sense that doesn't matter much (I don't care) Everything you ever wanted I can deliver more Well it's all been said and done Yes it's all been said and done Why say what doesn't please If you pretend to let this be till morning Where are you going (I can't tell you) And when you fall away do you still bleed Of those your wounds some self inflicted ...well you should know Well can it ever be For you and me And so the night returns just like a friend Giving hope where hope hasn't lived a long, long time And a day hardly begins Without the feeling you ain't goin to win this time Take what's yours but leave mine... And who gets to reason why Is an element of surprise In any reckoning

If they ever make a film of the books this would make a fantastic soundtrack for it ! Right from the start that dark menacing wall of sound sucks you in . The great guitar adds to the mystery and the dark menacing vocals tells the story magnificently . In short very very menacing ! Hits the spot in a dark dramatic way . Brilliant !

Oh yeah, I love the Goth undertones! A very dark & haunting vibe, enhanced brilliantly by the guitar work. Great lyrics & soulful vocals. Had me hooked right away!
