The Real Thing

another one of our covers from the psychedelic sixties, this AUS classic written by Johnny Young should have been an international breakout smash but alas it wasn't to be...the world took the BG's from us but little else till LRB, Men@Work and INXS!
psychedelic synths sixties schneider
some people get by with a little understanding, some people get by with a whole lot more..
think back to when Gary Numan wrote and recorded 'Cars' in 1979 and if we don't think we've lost something we're crazy...but if we think it's coming back anytime soon then we are complete fools... can you still recall in the juke box hall when the music played and the world spun round to a brand new sound in those far off days.. in their blue suede shoes they would scream and shout as they sang the blues, let it all hang out.. rock and roll..

Story behind the song
The original song, produced by Molly Meldrum, performed by Russel Morris is etched into many Australian's memories as it raged against a backdrop of our involvement in Vietnam (all the way with LBJ...), MLK assassination, flower-power and man on the moon - the chaotic ending, which we've tried to recreate heralds an uncertain (almost foreboding) welcome to the seventies... We both really wanted to cover this song as the legends involved and the history of it being a ground-breaking piece is Oz Rock solid gold!
Lyrics
Come and see the real thing Come and see the real thing Come and see Come and see the real thing Come and see the real thing Come and see There's a meaning there But the meaning there doesn't really mean a thing Come and see the real thing Come and see the real thing Come and see I am the real thing Oo mama mow-mow Oo mama mama mama mama mama mama mow Trying hard to understand that Really not, you're seeing me Trying hard to understand that Really not, you're seeing me There's a meaning there But the meaning there Doesn't really mean a thing Come and see the real thing Come and see the real thing Come and see I am the real thing Oo mama mow-mow Oo mama mama mama mama mama mama mow I am not seeing you I am not seeing you ahhhh... Trying hard to understand that Really not, you're seeing me Trying hard to understand that Really not, you're seeing me There's a meaning there But the meaning there Doesn't really mean a thing Come and see the real thing Come and see the real thing Come and see I am the real thing Oo mama mow-mow Oo mama mama mama mama mama mama mow I am not seeing you I am not seeing you ahhhh... Oo mama mow-mow Oo mama mama mama mama mama mama mow

I actually remember hearing this song in the sixties, but I forgot all about it. It is a great performance from you, and it is very true to the original period and the sound of that time. Anti-war songs are not something we hear much these days, but maybe we need to relisten the old ones..

I just seen what Tony’s written ! Didn’t mean to copy what he said but it really is that authentic !
