The Heartbreakers came from humble beginnings.....the men's bathroom on the bottom floor of the Administration Building at Abilene Christian University in 1986. The marble floors and high tile walls made for some great acoustic harmony reverberations. It didn't take long for the sweet harmonies to come together well enough to impress the girls. That's when The Heartbreakers figured out that there were no girls in the men's restroom. And so the quest begun. No, not a quest. A mission from God. A mission to get the girls to at least glance ever so briefly in the general direction of The Heartbreakers. We're not sure if the entire mission was ever completed, but The Heartbreakers certainly sang to crowds of adoring females (and a few obviously jealous dudes that just wouldn't go away). The shows were always filled with doo-waps, harmonies, Dippety-Doo, cheap sunglasses, and some of the weakest jokes and choreography you've ever seen. Through it all, The Heartbreakers were stud-muffin chick magnets, and they held true to their motto: "MY WAY OR THE HIGHWAY" (At least that's the way they remember it now - 20 years later.....) Of course, The Heartbreakers' wives today know and understand that The Heartbreakers would NEVER - not even for a minute - presume to have anything at all "their way" any more. That was just a "phase" The Heartbreakers went through when they were younger. Crazy boys!
Band/artist history
The Heartbreakers made history every time they took the stage (or the stall, as the case may have been). There is too much history to list here. Suffice it to say that the lives that were touched by The Heartbreakers will NEVER be the same. On April 29, 1987, in the back room of the ACU Press, The Heartbreakers laid down these historic tracks. Someday, there will be a shrine or something erected there.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
The Heartbreakers play regularly in the daydreams of middle-aged (ouch!) men that still have a half-empty jar of Dippety-Doo in the medicine cabinet and in the pounding hearts of all those once-young girls that screamed every time the Heartbreakers broke into a harmony.
Your musical influences
All the old Doo-Wop groups from the 50's and 60's plus The Nylons, Rockapella, ShaNaNa, and (The Heartbreakers hate to have to admit this in public).....OK! OK! We'll say it! ....The Sharks!
What equipment do you use?
The Heartbreakers used only the studly bodies and voices that the good Lord blessed them with. Nothing else was ever needed. (OK, there was a drum machine for a while....and some microphones...and PA equipment....and a pitchpipe.....and some Dippety-Doo.....and some sleevless T-shirts.)
Anything else?
If you have a message for The Heartbreakers or an old story about The Heartbreakers, please post it in the Message Board. Just remember that these guys are all upstanding citizens now (surprisingly enough), so don't post any dirt that their kids could use against them! Oh, and if you are one of the MANY jealous losers (Moonies, Subbers, Frats, etc.) that lost your girl to one of The Heartbreakers back in the '80s....... Just move on, dude. You know The Heartbreakers will take you down!!!
