The scene has been sold. The story has been told and retold. Somewhere in the recent years of artistic evolution, the essence, the heart, the very soul of music has been lost. The result is a veritable wasteland of conformity, where image and superficiality, rather than creativity and originality have become the defining elements in the sonic medium. Slowly but surely, a substitution of artistic priorities has taken place. Growing weary of the constant spectacle that is popular music today, Sweater Club was formed under the idea that artistic ideals are not to be compromised. Founded under the principles of honesty, creativity, and originality, it is no surprise that the group’s sound does not fall between any conventional lines. Not only is their sound not easily definable, it outright defies the creative limits a genre applies. Combining the melodic horn lines of ska, the energy and emotion of punk, the message and feel of reggae, the improvisational abilities of jazz, and the power of rock, Sweater Club has created a sound that is purely their own.
We are six guys who met at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon. We come from very diverse backgrounds both musically and otherwise. This project was formed as a protest to the formulaic music that is being churned out of the corporate machine, as a creative outlet, and as a means for political and social commentary. We specifically set out to create music that is not limited by any expectations or genres, the only limit is our own creative power. We don't care about image, we don't want to be "cool," or impress "females". We just want to play, brah.
We would be playing music whether or not anyone was there to listen. Its what we love to do.
