baby's gotta rock - catscan demo baby's gotta rock - catscan demo
i was delighted to find an old cassette in my closet of a demo recorded by the group catscan back in 1986. they asked me to add a sax solo to george kouba's original tune, baby's gotta rock. i think it came out pretty darn good.
citadel citadel
i think the stones between the buttons LP got a bad rap. here's my take on one of the ones on that release that i like a lot.
sister morphine sister morphine
a bonus track from the 2018 nashville grun sessions. great music video for this track available on you tube (see videos by "stockwrock")
bring it on home to me bring it on home to me
one of my favorite oldies, featuring alto sax on the lead
12 string ramble 12 string ramble
riffing on an acoustic 12 string, and spontaneously meandering through assorted moods as the song was created
she loves my automobile she loves my automobile
a great tune by zz top, with a massive horn section and solo tenor taking the lead.
street fighting man street fighting man
with the stones taking to the road yet again, i was inspired to record this old favorite of mine.
jammin shuffle jammin shuffle
i started this one with a simple guitar riff and drumbeat. that evolved into this tidy shuffle with a mellow middle section.
its only love (beatles cover) its only love (beatles cover)
another beatles tune, with a nice melody that john lennon created, but apparently didn't like very much.
comfort me, alien comfort me, alien
this composition combines spacey synth sounds with traditional orchestral instruments. i like it, and hope you do, too.
beware of darkness beware of darkness
one of my favorite george harrison songs. i'm sorry i can't sing very well, because the lyrics to this song are intense. in any event, i played sax to cover the melody on this one, as i often do.
nonprofit undertaker nonprofit undertaker
here i go again, starting out with a piece in a classical genre, and then meandering via my synth toys to who knows what. with an apparent lack of musical discipline, i find myself exercising (or exorcising?) my creative whims.
last moon rising last moon rising
a moody ambient composition, contemplating our final days here on earth. enjoy them while you can.
opus for ed 2-18-19 opus for ed 2-18-19
Dedicated to my brother Ed, because I love him and he deserves a song dedication.
a rupee for your thoughts a rupee for your thoughts
creating a mellow, meditative mood with the use of some new sounds recently acquired for guitar and synth.
i'll cry instead i'll cry instead
of the 8 songs the grun and i recorded in our recent sessions, this one is my favorite. great job all around. check out the video on you tube by stockwrock.
if i needed someone if i needed someone
one of george harrison's early hits, covered by yours truly and the grun. this version replaces the instrumental previously posted. sounds a lot better with the vocals, wouldn't you agree?
brown sugar brown sugar
another great job on vocals by the grun, and yours truly, doing my best to honor bobby keys' classic sax solo. (REMIX UPLOADED 8/5/2018)
