Drowning In Regret Drowning In Regret
Interesting track written in 11/8 time. Based on a short story that Scott Mayer wrote in college.
In the vein of the great 60's and 70's improvisational power groups (Allmans, Cream, Jimi Hendrix), Spackle creates a new and modern power combo. The thundering rhythm section of Matt Schuler and Manny Ramos, coupled with the searing guitars of Scott Mayer and Albert Castigila, makes Spackle a Tour-de-force of rock n roll and one of the best live bands that Miami has to offer.Band/artist history
Albert Castigila
(Lead and Slide Guitar, Vocals)
Born on August 12, 1969 in New York during the weekend of the famous (infamous) Woodstock music festival. At the age of 5, his family moved to Miami. With a Cuban mother and an Italian father, he is an example of the melting pot of culture that is Miami. He learned to play guitar at the age of 12 and soon realized that the passions in his heart were expressed best by his music. He realized too that he could sing as well as he played. Upon completion of his high school and college education, he worked for four years as a social service investigator for the State of Florida. During that time Albert continued to hone his musical skills playing nights and weekends with local bands around South Florida. In 1990 he joined The Miami Blues Authority. After performing with the group as lead guitarist and vocalist for more than 7 years, and developing a very exciting and dynamic musical style, Albert won the award for “Best Local Blues Guitarist for 1997” by the Miami New Times Magazine.
Though music promoter, Gloria Pierce, Albert got an audition with international blues great Junior Wells, and so impressed Wells with his playing and vocal style, that he was asked to work in the band as a fill-in lead guitarist for a 3 city mini-tour in clubs from Cleveland, Buffalo and Detroit. He performed so well on the tour, that he was asked in 1997 to become the permanent lead guitarist in the Junior Wells band. With Junior and his band, Albert performed in clubs and at blues festivals all over the US, Canada and Europe winning rave reviews for his performances along the way.
Since Junior's passing in1998, Albert has performed and jammed with important blues artists and bands such as Sandra Hall, Pinetop Perkins, Aron Burton, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Sugar Blue, Melvin Taylor, Ronnie Earl, Billie Boy Arnold, Phil Guy, John Primer, Lurrie Bell, Jerry Portnoy, Larry McCray, Lee Oskar, Michael Coleman, J.W. Williams, Little Mack Simmons, Eddy Clearwater, Jimmy Burns and Otis Clay.
Manny Ramos
(Drums, Percussion, Vocals)
Born April 19, 1968 in Jersey City, New Jersey, Manny's family relocated to Miami when he was six. Manny took to music from a very young age. After being introduced to the music of The Who and Led Zeppelin, Manny began playing the drums while in high school. After high school Manny attended art school in Chicago and played in the country rock band The Gerards (1990-92) and the alt-rock/ punk outfit Slope (1992-95).
In 1995 Manny returned to Miami and dropped out of playing publicly until he met Scott Mayer in 1999 and formed what would become Spackle. Influenced by country, rock, punk, dance, funk and various kinds of world music, Manny's drumming is a unique experience blending these influences.
Scott Mayer
(Guitar, Synthesisers, Mandolin, Vocals)
Born May 8, 1976 in Albany, New York to what was already a musical family. His father was involved in musical theater and his uncle; Alan Nadel was a guitarist in many bands in the late 70's punk scene in New York. In 1986 Scott, his mother, and his younger brother moved to Atlanta, Georgia to create a new family with his mother's new husband, Jeff Levine. Jeff taught Scott to play guitar and banjo at the age of eight and Scott began playing bluegrass, folk, and old-timey music.
At the age of 14, Scott fell in love with the music of R.E.M., U2 and Camper Van Beethoven and bought an electric guitar. He soon began playing with many short-lived Atlanta rock bands. At 16, Scott and his friends started Dootie, a Grateful Dead cover band. As a member of Dootie, Scott was lucky enough to be a part of the birth of the Atlanta JamBand scene.
In 1994, Scott moved to College Park, Maryland where he played with Orange Rhythm (1995), C.O. Jones (1995-97), and Double Down (1997-99). With Double Down, he shared the stage with The Radiators, God Street Wine, The Disco Biscuits, The Recipe, Lake Trout, The Kelly Bell Band, and G. Love and Special Sauce. In 1999, Scott moved to Miami, FL and together with Manny Ramos and Alan Brown started the band that would later become Spackle.
In 2000 Scott moved to Seattle, Washington and played in a band called Karma Sutra. Unhappy with the direction of Karma Sutra, Scott returned to Miami in 2001, to reconnect with Manny and new bass player Matt Schuler and thus, Spackle was born.
Matt Schuler
(Bass, Keyboard, Vocals)
The son of two Kentucky natives, was born in Indiana during the flower- power generation. As a young child he was exposed. Although he loved to draw, he was more aural than ocular. He dug music. His first instrument was the accordion but he soon realized that chicks don’t date cats that play instruments with bellows. At the age of ten he began playing brass instruments and has never looked back.
He is a trumpet playing fool with many groups in the Miami area. “ Trumpet is cool, but you have to stretch your music ability by learning other instruments,” so he decided to join the elite family of the serious heavy groove.
Matt is now an aspiring bassist, funkin’, jumpin’ and shakin’ his rump, this cat ROCKS. Catch him with SPACKLE.Have you performed in front of an audience? We play monthly at Miami's oldest bar, Tobacco Road and can also be found at various live music venues in south Florida.
