National Pornographic is a 5 piece Funk Groove outfit...Incorporate DJ scratcher, Percussion, Beatbox, Didgeridoo along side phat bass and punching beats.

National Pornographic utilize drums, bass, guitar, scratching, didgeridoo & percussion to create their delicious blend of PhatFunkPunkBeats. With a live show like no other, National Pornographic always have the entire crowd dancing and chanting to their sample based tunes.

Believe it or not, Matt Bozic and Nick Whitehead's first incarnation of the band began in 1999 as an extreme metal band, sporting the 'inverted growl' technique of Matt Preston. Considering the nature of the music, they were all surprised to discover each others love of funk & jazz, and began incorporating it with their already heavy groove. The transition then came naturally. Heavy guitar riffs morphed into phat bass lines, which in turn made the sound punchier, and very danceable. Once having written an arsenal of fresh tunes, DJ Dave Win, and percussionist, John Socratous, soon joined the juggernaut that is National Pornographic, and their sound evolved into what you hear today.

National Pornographic have already proved they can compete with the 'big boys' when they played alongside the likes of Endorphin & Koolism at this years LUCID festival in Sydney. Despite being the only live band on the entire bill, the lads showed they can infiltrate the dance circuit of DJ's and 'laptop' acts. With their highly infectious grooves and captivating live show, it is no surprise NP have shared stages with Skunkhour, Pre_Shrunk and Katalyst. You will find all sorts at a National Pornographic gig. From the suited jazz connoisseur, to the studded metal head, NP can tickle the fancy of any music lover, enabling them to jump from pubs to niteclubs to festivals, and be embraced by every type of punter.

NP believe their ever growing fan base is a result of constant touring, at home and interstate. Whilst on the road, DJ Dave Win spins tracks on either side of the bands chaotic set to ensure the funk is not compromised.

NP have been invited to play a 'private party' for American porn star, Jenna Jameson (you may have seen her in bed with eminem in his 'Without Me' filmclip). She'll be plugging her latest offering in Australia later this year.....and NP will be offering some plugging of their own! The boys are very familiar with 'private parties'. They were invited to the premier of Ron Jeremy's appropriately titled documentary, 'Porn Star' last December. Ron was even sporting his National Pornographic T-Shirt on the evening!

Besides articles in Penthouse and People Magazine, National Pornographic have also appeared on Sydney's #1 evening radio station, NOVA 96.9 FM. NP enjoy regular airplay on such stations as FBi (Sydney), 2SER (Sydney), Bondi FM (Sydney), Bay FM (Byron Bay), and 4zZz (Brisbane), and have performed live on air several times. With just over eleven months of gigs up their sleeves, NP have already made quite an impression.

National Pornographic were finally allowed to play their HeavyAcidFunkGroove in Balmain without being censored. Certain venue owners in the area asked the band to play under such alias' as 'National Geographic' and 'The NP Quintet'. But the nice folk at the Cat & Fiddle gave the lads a passport to run a muck every Friday in March. The overwhelming response to those gigs scored NP a residency there every Saturday in August. You can also add the Peppermint Lounge, and Lansdowne Hotel to the NP residency list.

An onlooker recently captured a shot of the boys getting ejected from Sydney strip club, 'The Love Machine' in Kings X. Rumor has it that their turntablist, DJ Dave Win, refused to pay for services he received from one of the 'women'! See it and other candid shots in the pics section.
