Story behind the song
"This Side of Forever" was composed initially only for myself. It is one of these abstract/ambient, loving, haunting electronic symphonies that struck me as being in the Berlioz "Symphony Fantastique" mold. It was only later, after I had written the poem "Box Made of Flesh" that I could see how the two of them were parts of a greater story that amplified each other's grief. In 2002 I composed a music video, featuring the poem in written form, in the video. The video is available for perusal at http://www.thedeadpoets.org/thissideofforevervideo.html Others have often mentioned to me how the poem strikes them differently after reading it alone just as a poem and later viewing it in context of the music video. I'd love to hear your opinions.
