Innocence and Experience (demo)
This is a demo version of a new song we did last night. It is terribly simple, and bitter. The End.
Two boys. One guitar. One keyboard. And yet- much, much more.
Fivewordslong are Matt Toohey and Steve Lambert, along with anyone else who helps us out along the way. We are the future of Rock N Roll. Probably.
Story behind the song
This is a song about this fucking girl that pissed me off. So I wrote a song about it.
Lyrics
You wrote your name all in lowercase letters
In the book you kept by the bed.
And some hand, through faith and art,
Did mend the sinews of your broken heart.
And when your heart began to beat,
He laid the whole world down at your feet.
And in my dreams, you're there with me
So I'm scared of waking up,
I'm afraid of so many things.
So let me sing this last lament.
I wrote some dirges for the living,
Another song about a night that you'll forget
When you move off to college in the fall.
You won't have any problems,
Cause you'll drink away them all.
And you won't learn a thing,
Cause you know all there is to know
About grabbing hold of someone's heart,
While they cry and choke and beg you to let go.
Let me be first to point the blame.
With my crippled fickle finger,
You can bite it off when I point it in your face.
Cause I'm still feeling sore
About the day you up and left me
And you sold yourself from door to door to door.
And it's all I think about:
How you two went to the movies,
Now you're making out, and sleeping at his house.
Your friends think I'm a joke,
So let's drown them all in alcohol
And tie your long brown hair around your throat,
So will choke.
I wish you were still innocent.
I wish you never cut your hair,
I wish you never got rid of your old clothes.
Now I'm experienced.
And I think I'm getting better,
Yeah, I think that I am ready to let go.
