Story behind the song
Lived in Texas for about a year and was thoroughly influenced, from Bar-b-Q Rock to Western Swing to waltzes like this.
Lyrics
Wilting Flower Waltz I. There she sat like a wilting flower. In a saloon somewhere in eastern Oregon. And it was was at a that oh so desperate hour. When every man with looks or money had gone. II. In a town not really all too great in number She was the prize of male attention in the class. And after fourteen years and two kids He ran off with some dancer. Guess her hero was just another horse's ass. Chorus: When you're told you're getting older. When you're too long at the ball, When there's always another lover When the shadows fall. Don't you hunger to be younger. It's all wasted schemes. It's enough we're not the stuff of our dreams. Instrumental: III. The happy ending that we ride into tee sunset Is an illusion that we're losin' in the mirror. More like a guitar howlin' lonesome to that Smokey, blue horizon what you're hearin' Is your fearin' the years. Copyright 2003 D.C. Hall
