Story behind the song
After 9-11 I got the following parable in my email: "A Native American grandfather was talking to his grandson and said 'I feel as if I have 2 wolves fighting in my heart. One is angry, vengeful, & violent while the other is loving & compassionate. The grandson asked 'Which wolf will win the fight in your heart?' The grandfather answered 'The wolf I feed.'" I was overwhelmed as most people were with a renewed sense of patriotism and unity after the 9-11 attacks. But as I was wondering which of our less publicized actions had triggered this event, I was shocked and more frightened by my fellow Americans sudden thirst, not for understanding, but for revenge. I saw thoughtful and compassionate people get sucked into oversimplistic rhetoric as we all watched the White House driven spin machine crank into high gear. I was angry and frightened too, but I saw almost immediately that we were being herded into a dangerous place. I do not support terrorism in any of it's forms. I don't support it when "they" do it to us and I don't support it when we do it to "them".
