Ambient

R-Three is a electronic/experimental/progressive rock project striving to create something truly new and original while still staying true to our roots. Our definition of "prog" starts with artists like Gabriel-era Genesis and Marillion, but stretches to include late-era Talk Talk, David Sylvian, Brian Eno, Can and even some of the Cure's work.
Band/artist history
In the late 90's, Brad Steffen and Rhett Redelings decided to form a 2 man band and join their small home studios into one bigger home studio. A series of internet-only singles resulted. 1998 saw Rhett composing original music for the One Dream Productions' film "Holocaust in my Body". 2001/2002 saw the release of our debut CD "Perceptual Distortion". A string of mostly positive reviews followed, music fans the world over were overcome with it's strange patchwork-like beauty and strangeness! Mid 2003 bore witness to the controversial single "Something to Believe In" which continues to turn head and wake people up. S2BI was used by the Dennis Kucinich campaign to spread awareness grassroots style and is currently on Sea Lion Records' CD 'Election Day:USA', going out to public and college radio stations all over the U.S. August 2004 - Something to Believe In is released as a CD EP with 4 other songs. http://cdbaby.com/rthree2 At the time of this writing, we're writing and recording our second album which sounds like it's going to be even groovier than the first one!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
While I'd love to take some of our material out to a crowd, it's not currently in the works.
Your musical influences
Talk Talk's twin masterpieces 'Spirit of Eden' and 'Laughing Stock' are probably my favorite albums in the world, followed closely by everything ever recorded by Marillion. David Sylvian and Robert Fripp's album 'The First Day' is also a tremendous influence as are 'Discipline', '3 of a Perfect Pair' and 'Thrack' by King Crimson.
What equipment do you use?
Roland Juno 60 (pre midi analog synth), Propellerhead's Reason, Gigasampler, ProTools LE, Sonar, Acid, Sound Forge, Acoustic Mirror, Etherwave Theramin, Antares' Kantos software, Native Instruments Reaktor, Crybaby Wah, Roland D50, Korg Wavestation S-R, Line 6 Pod XT, Peavey Classic 30 Amp, Nemesys Bass amp, Tobias 5 string bass, Fender Telecaster, vocoder, Steinberger Spirit, live drums, household items, various microphones, harmonica, various samples n'loops, kalimba, rain stick, misc. percussion, Tibetan Ragdung, Tibetan prayer bell, shortwave radio, upright piano, acoustic guitar California-born larynx, Alabama-born larynx, New York original larynx.
