DESCENDANTS OF ASAPH Asaph was the first and chief musician in the early days before the temple was built in Jerusalem. By all accounts (1Chron 16v5) he was a percussionist and drummer and together with Heman and Jeduthun formed the first worship band to accompany the choir in praise and worship of God He wrote a number of psalm lyrics under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. His lyrics are very down to earth and he likes to say things exactly as they are! 'Descendants of Asaph' follow in his tradition and is a virtual band dedicated to making music and song unto the Lord and presenting His challenge to the world today through parables in music. Lyrics
SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL She broke an alabaster jar Of exotic, rare perfume A costly, aromatic brand Of quality seldom seen She squandered in a brief moment The pride of her treasure chest In a reckless gesture of her love For the man from Nazareth She did something beautiful In her time He grumbled for he deemed it waste The scent split on Christ s head It could have fetched a handsome price And fed hungry mouths instead But love was never in his heart Nor philanthropy motif For a man who cared not for the poor A common pilferer and thief He spoilt something beautiful In his time For it s not about how much we spend Or counting up the cost For lavish gifts that we bestow On Christ are never lost It s not about how much we spend Or counting the expense For selfless giving shuns reward And seeks no recompense We have so much to answer for In the choices that we make So take the time to make the most Of opportunities we face Spare no expense to show our love In action and in thought What we have may not seem much But to others means a lot If you want to make an imprint in this life Go do something beautiful in your time Yes, go do something beautiful with your life © 2004 A Paul
