Blackland: Southern Rock-N-Roll
BLACKLAND: original rock-n-roll. The band has been peforming since 1998 at clubs, festivials and fairs throughout the Southeast. We have released three albums so far and working on a forth. Blackland's all original music comes from the heart and soul of Muscle Shoals, Alabama but don't be confused, you will hear very little (if any) of the old "Muscle Shoals Sound". The music has been described as "Metallica meets Skynyrd" and we are totally cool with that, actually we embrace it. The band makes it home in the former East Avalon Recorders facility in Muscle Shoals. The studio is now known as Clear Day Studio and our music is published through Cleardaymessenger Publishing. Story behind the song
The final cut was recorded about 4 years ago at East Avalon Recorders here in Muscle Shoals. A friend Steve Robbins (where did you go?) brought over an old tape with keys and bass line only. The original recording (bass & keys) was done in the late 70's by the late Leon Wilkenson of Lynyrd Skynyrd and the late Randy Cutlip of Sheffield, Alabama. It is my understanding that the original tracks were recorded in a makeshift studio in the basement of a building in Sheffield, Alabama that was also the residence of Randy Kutlip We added guitars, drums and wrote the lyrics around the original recording. The lead vocals are done by Mark Pyle of BLACKLAND and the background vocals were done as a favor by Muscle Shoals vocalist April Killian.
