Story behind the song
It's the story of the first time I ever told my now wife that I loved her. It happened during "Brokedown Palace", the encore of the Grateful Dead's performance at Buckeye Lake on June 11, 1993.
Lyrics
Well I once met a girl so sad Too beautiful to be locked inside a world where no one seemed to be enchanted by her smile. So long ago she brought her expectations in line with her situation. It served as shelter from the pain of never having loved Is it too late? Well it's never too late... So I took a chance one day and said Come and dance with me And I'll show you things you never knew Existed just outside your point of view. It was a beautiful thing watching her eyes open to the acts of random kindness surrounding us I held her close And underneath those stars we fell in love... While the band softly sang I love you more than words can...more than words can tell... More than, mo-o-ore than, more than words can tell... And words can tell. I can feel it This is the night I've been enlightened by your light This weights been lifted We can fly until the morning sunshine shines. Let it shine Let it shine Let it shine on me Won't you let it shine on me? I can feel you In the night. I've been enlightened by your light By your light By your light By your light, light light. This thing we've captured must be held onto so gently That it doesn't know it's being held at all. And you will see That it has come to be I am a part of you And you are a part of me And when the morning sunshine shines you'll hear me sing. I love you more than words can, more than words can tell. More than, more than more than words can tell. And words can tell. I love you more than words can tell.
