Story behind the song
This is Mike Fusco's petition to the listeners of America--and the world--to believe in love. As he sings it, you can almost imagine him standing up at the podium and announcing, I'm going to succeed, if only to demonstrate that love really does exist in its purest form!
Lyrics
Sometimes I sit alone and start To wonder if your broken heart Has given up on me again And found some lame excuse to mend The pieces that fell, you know full well That's not what I meant when I... I said to you, "I never want to say goodbye" Sometimes I feel like the only way to reach you is to Hit it Big Become famous singing songs that I wrote for you And you know they're for you When they go on and on again Sometimes I feel the thing that keeps me going is knowing you think of me When you're driving alone I overanalyze what I should do And, baby, I stop short of nothing in this world To get back to you. I'm sorry... So, bottle up your life and put it on a shelf I'm gonna go there, gonna go there, Gonna open you up to me You might as well give it like you said to me once, cuz I'm gonna go there, Gonna bring me back to you One of these times. Sometimes I lay at night and pray And wonder how things got this way Cuz love's a lottery I've rigged And I feel that I've Hit it Big. So blame it on fate, I just can't wait I've got to go and take initiative To make you see that I've got a life of love to give... Sometimes I feel like the only way to reach you is to Hit it Big, become famous singing songs that I wrote for you And you know they're for you when they go on and on again Sometimes I fear the thing that keeps me alive is knowing you think of me when you're alone on a drive I've had nine months so I can think things through and, baby, I'd stop short of nothing in this world to get back to you. No worries... So, turn it up, Alicia, your ears are gonna perk up when you sit there and think, "Oh, this song's for some lucky girl." Make no mistake about it, I've loved you all the while, and you'll show you still love me with that gonna-cry, apologized, teary-eyed, sealed-lip smile...
