My first real appreciation for music hit me the first time I saw the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show. The emotion and enthusiasm of the audience on that small black and white screen was a real eye opener for me. I began writing songs a few years later as a teenager and decided to teach myself to play guitar. What better way to impress girls, right? As I matured as a writer it was my love for a good story song that morphed me into a country songwriter. I enjoy reading articles about other songwriters, and one of my biggest influences was a Johnny Cash quote that said he used the "KISS" method of writing. An acronym for "Keep It Simple Stupid", and I thought that sounded pretty easy. Was I ever WRONG! I have learned that creating a song that comes across as conversational and uncomplicated was not as easy as it sounded. After several years of writing, and many stacks of spiral bound notebooks, I slowly turned into a better writer as I learned to draw from life's experiences. My dad was a career military man, and I was born on an Army base in Augusta, Georgia. Growing up I spent summers on my grandparents farm in Louisiana, and so I am forever filled with a deep love for the south. My family and I live in the Flint Hills of Kansas. This site contains a portion of my catalog which is pitched daily in Nashville. Lyrics
He owns his horse, a Buckskin of course, n’ a couple of changes of clothes A wide brim hat, chaps and some tack n’ a thirty foot length of rope He rolls his own, carries ache in his bones from weather n’ colts he’s broke His face shows every minute of the life he’s livin’ on his arm is tattooed a rose He’s worked with the best ‘round Cheyenne n’ Gillette wranglers all know his name He once held the title from three different finals when ridin’ the rodeo game He never says much, but figures enough, preferrin’ his own company Saves part of his pay n’ gives some away, yet seems to have all he needs CHORUS A man who can live real cowboy dreams will find himself some peace Being all alone can cleanse the soul n’ give a man time to think Cause cowboy dreams are not about things, they’re about what a man believes N’ knowin’ love n’ friends and life’s like the wind Blowing through Cottonwood trees He’ll never complains, never likes change, cause nothin’ in his life is broke He knows what to expect, respect or neglect, needs done or just left alone He knows horses n’ cattle, men n’ their battles, n’ women can be like the breeze He feels every day there on the range blowin’ through cottonwood trees CHORUS (repeat) BRIDGE And he knows that happiness is best defined In moments or minutes you see N’ how love ‘n friends, n’ life’s like that wind Blowin’ through cottonwood trees CHORUS (repeat) TAG
