A guitar driven song with a retro 'Brit-Pop', vibe. I used my Rickenbacker 4003 bass for a retro bass sound and my Eastwood Astro Cadet Bill Nelson signature model, for all the guitar sounds. Processing as always nowadays, via a Line 6 Pod Go unit.

Major Snagg is the invented name of the 'band' that perform all my own musical creations. (songs and instrumentals). I play guitars, bass, rudimentary keyboards, harmonica, and sing. Melody has always been important to me... lyrics and guitar solos have to say or communicate something. I create musical worlds that I hope that you dear listener, will also want to explore and live in for a few moments...or longer if you feel that way inclined.

Story behind the song
Recently I uploaded a song called, Twiggy & The Shrimp (plus an Acoustic un-plugged version of it ). I've recorded an 'alternative version', of it, in a more 'up-beat' 'Brit-Pop', style. To avoid any confusion between the 3 versions, I've re-named it, 'Stop & Stare', It is in all intentions a different song, albeit it has the same lyrics ... but in a different order. The words , 'Stop and stare', are now the hook, thus the re-naming. The 2 earlier versions (named, Twiggy & The Shrimp), are in 3/4 time. This new 'Brit-Pop', styled version, (called, Stop & Stare) is in 4/4 time. Being in 4/4 now gives it a totally different feel.
Lyrics
Stop & Stare David A Briggs (c) 2024 "didn't you guys see a pretty girl before?" Intro guitar: With your eyes so blue and your long hair, and your red shiny plastic mack. You have the look of the moment, It's a look that says, "we don't look back. A halo of golden sunbeams, Sparkle around your head. [sparkle around your head] but I'll never get to see you , like the guy with the Rolleiflex. Oh Lesley can you see me? I see you everywhere. In magazines and on posters. I can't but stop and stare, I stop and stare, [I stop and stare] You're the new fashion icon, photographically posed to impress. Innocent and yet wistful, in your sky-blue, mini-dress. A halo of golden sunbeams, Sparkle around your head. [sparkle around your head] but I'll never get to see you , like the guy with the Rolleiflex. Oh Lesley can you see me? I see you everywhere. In magazines and on posters. I can't but stop and stare, I stop and stare, [I stop and stare] guitar solo: So let's not talk of tomorrow, because today, "the weekend starts here". Everyone's dressed in their finest, Here there and everywhere. A halo of golden sunbeams, Sparkle around your head. [sparkle around your head] but I'll never get to see you , like the guy with the Rolleiflex. Oh Lesley can you see me? I see you everywhere. In magazines and on posters. I can't but stop and stare, I stop and stare, [I stop and stare] guitar solo; fade-out

Nice job David, conjures up a real 60’s vibe couldn’t help but think of Twiggy. Would make a great soundtrack for a 60’s documentary. Very cool!

Yes this has built up into full 60s Brit pop mode ! 4/4 has definitely changed the feel . Love the bass and the tremolo guitar ! I used to use my bros AC 30 in the tremolo input sometimes ! That brings back great memories when I started gigging with him when I was 14 ! This is David at his best ! Love all 3 versions !

Fascinating to hear the 2 very different versions of this song. I like both for different reasons. This one's a more powerful pop/rock job, I really like the call-response type of backing vocals, reminds me a bit of the Beach Boys, superb guitar work, and the song itself is super catchy!

David this is excellent. Oozing with Brit pop. Like your vocals and your guitar is always spot on. Good work.
