Story behind the song
I wrote this a while back (Approx 450 songs ago), so there was some concern that this might technically be a B side since it just didnt make the cut as a song to record for a decade. This song (re)uses the metaphor of a playground/merry-go-round for life and love and loss. It takes the idea of love being a game to a more concrete level. The majority of the images are autobiographical in this one, though not necessarily from the same moment in time. While the recording including includes the typical acoustic and electric guitars, this one also has Concert Grand and Full Horn section to give it some punch.
Lyrics
1. More tears and more bruised knees
Falling from the monkey bars to the gravel
Old scars and fresh scrapes
As life no longer safe, becomes unraveled
Like a Merry Go Round
Merry Go Round
Merry Go Round
Falling down on lifes playground
2. As taillights head down the driveway
And darkness returns to the island
Its so quiet that its a little unnerving
Theres an empty echo to the silence
3. Pain slowly filling up from the inside
Trying to keep a little life to living
Gasping for love in the vacuum
But pride sucks oxygen from the very room
4. As things return to normal Monday
Everything is so fragile and tenuous
You can barely go through the motions
Coming face to face with the emotions
