Voice samples from, The Ragged Trousered Philantropists; which was a BBC radio-play, set within a 'hard-edged, Post Punk' music soundtrack of my own creation. The Ragged Trousered Philantropists is the only book by Robert Tressell.

Major Snagg is the invented name of the 'band' that perform all my own musical creations. (songs and instrumentals). I play guitars, bass, rudimentary keyboards, harmonica, and sing. Melody has always been important to me... lyrics and guitar solos have to say or communicate something. I create musical worlds that I hope that you dear listener, will also want to explore and live in for a few moments...or longer if you feel that way inclined.

Story behind the song
The story of The Ragged Trousered Philantropists, is set in England, just before the First World War. It tells the story of a collection of workmen who are renovating an old mansion. The unscrupulous boss and the foreman of building firm are cutting as many corners as they can get away with ...including paying the workmen as little as they can get away with too. It mainly tells the story of Owen, who is a visionary socialist who tries to educate his fellow workers to join a Trade Union to better the lives of all workers. An inspirational book. I was recommended to read the book, 'The Ragged Trousered Philantropists', many years ago by an older, and I must say, a very wise man. He said, "Read that book lad, it'll change your perspective". I did, and like he said, it did.
Lyrics
voice samples from a BBC radio play aired many years ago that I had the foresight to record.

Unique and creative, maybe even a little controversial - always a brave move to musically come down on one side of the political fence. Superb production and very skillfully performed.

Quite a story in this one. We have come full Circle in our country. Unions built the middle Class and helped destroy the middle class in less than 75 years. I like your backing track and the fact you recorded the bbc years ago is unique enough but the fact you still have the recordings is amazing. Nice work.

A story from history that sadly was repeated over & over again, but was the necessary reaction to the industrial age. Great history and a great tune to celebrate it David, Bravo!
