Story behind the song
I think you get the picture from the lyric. Pretty soon after coming round, even before you work out what all those tubes are for, the thought occurs: is this it? Can't talk, can't eat, can't move - is this how it's going to be? I'm beyond grateful to be able to say no, it wasn't. Mabel and Jane don't exist - they're just names that sounded right. But you can pretend they were nurses.
