Trash-pop, guitar rock and melodic miscellany.
Not so much a band as a bloke with a guitar and a laptop, The Smivets deliver a genre-bending blend of pop, rock, punk, prog and many other monosyllables.

Story behind the song
A return to one of my soapbox topics - that old paranoia conspiracy. Sometimes we all feel we are mere puppets, our every action controlled by unseen strings. Strings that all trace back to the hands of a shadowy few.
Lyrics
You don't have to see them To know that they are there Their fingers of malign persuasion Insinuating everywhere A quiet word teeing off the third To make fortunes rise or fall Like gods they move their chess pieces Manipulating us all It's a hidden echelon That exists to sustain itself With the kind of influence Beyond the reach of wealth In ones and twos In their champagne shoes These illuminati twist the rules To act exactly how they choose To the ruin of all else No matter what you say No matter what you do Real power only resides In the hands of the very few And it's wielded with full force Each and every day Just to make damn sure That it stays that way

This is awesome and yeah what can I say..love your guitar playing so much! yeah you rock Steve!!
I've heard this maybe a dozen or so times now and I'm still absorbing just how dang brilliant it is. The enviable sound, the performance subtleties, use of arrangement to heighten the tension and the way it opens up for the tasty twisting solo... this is just too good.

Blowing the roof off the old garage mate ;) Superb lyrics that cut to core of the human dilemma that are simply brilliant!

Absolutely brilliant!! Oh yeah, I can so relate to "A quiet word teeing off the third" line - seen it, experienced the fallout from it. Fantastic guitar work, love the melody line and the lyrics are superb. Great vocals too. One of those songs that will stay with me for a very long time.

Another smookin' track Steve. Awesome vocals, guitars and production, as usual. Love that guitar solo and tone! The bass and drums sound great. The organ is great. Just beautifully produced and played first class music - awesome!.
