Story behind the song
My Lady Beat used J Dilla - 'Earl' [Vol. 2: Vintage (2003)] ------------------------------------------------------------------- I ended up writing this after pondering when and if I'd ever find that significant other that so many people look for. I was very high on Jay Dilla because he does that type of production that has existed in hip hop since it began. And if you really think about, anything and everything can come from inspiration. But Dilla took to beats in new ways to people couldn't even fathom to get to bring out. I heard J Sands from the Lone Catalysts used all Dilla productions, and really like the style of delivery to the same beat that I ultimately used. I think was just messing around and discovered my lyrics fit perfectly and the chorus followed suit. It's half rap, half song. But full of heart. And it was actually going to be a minute longer with the ladies to sing a part "I could be/ Your lady/ Just try me/ when you're ready/". But instead of me, have a female vocalist. I ended up cutting that part out, and would have needed to because my cd is already close to the full 80. I was more concerned about the songs that had to make the cut, than the length of cd. 60 mins and up is always a good idea in most cases.
