Story behind the song
Penwomanship Beat used Amy Winehouse - 'October Song' [Frank (2003)] Jazz Guitar & additional hand clap piano keys by Mike FuQ ------------------------------- When you write, people will comment on your penmanship. Well, I thought of a play on words. When women write, shouldn't it be called penwomanship? Sexist equality right? haha. Well, female rappers and emcees or more hip hop lingo correct "Femcees", are not as highly recognized as the male counterparts. Chances are, the only way women would be featured in a hip hop video is by way of booty shaking and the like. I have nothing against booty shaking, but perhaps it should be known that the spectrum of hip hop talent goes beyond what ends up on tv, and in the female world beyond Nicki Minaj. My personal favorites are Queen Latifah and MC Lyte. So the lyrics are basically a play on as many female rappers of the industry as possible, referencing their songs, albums, style, etc. This was gonna be another track that was more extensively done, but in hindsight time constraints made it just as good. I originally wanted to add a sax at the end, but went with the jazz guitar vibe instead, via my Casio keyboard. If I'd ever do a remix, I'd rap about each female MC over their respective beats.
