"Backfire" is an alt-country song I wrote in '04 (originally titled "Smallpox"). I wrote it about the truth suggested by the fact that your doctor has to give you a little case of smallpox in order to prevent a real case of smallpox (just as a firefighter has to light a backfire to get rid of the mainfire).
