An acoutic singer-songwriter-y sort of fellow, with tinges of folk and a hint of lime.
Likes: tea, checked shirts and listening to music.
Dislikes: writing bios in the third person.
Take a listen if you can to some of the music. If you've time, it would be good if you could leave a comment on the messageboard bit and a link to your own music if you've got one so I can give you a listen!

Haven't updated this page in ages, though I've uploaded a couple of new songs: - mainly because I've finally got a new website up, www.midgemckay.co.uk :)

Not getting much chance to do anything with music at all at the moment due to having a rather busy non-music life! Deadlines at university and the rest of the non-fun parts of being a student. But I still found an aold song I had written words to and never completed, so I'm half way through playing with that. Guess it'll have to go in the pile with all the other things I wanted to do to put on Soundclick:( Here's hoping I get some free time sometime soon!

Plod-along song complete! It's called Tenderness (though that could possibly change a wee bit) and if I Can get some work done today on other stuff then I can have a go at recording some of it. I've still not started The Crow's song that I want to cover though, have to see about that too! But hey - it's Sunday.

After SC being down for a few days, I finally got the chance to put some reviews up on the page. Check them out on the links bit to the right of this. In other news, I've been writing a plod-along song, nice and happy (so far), think Badly Drawn Boy when his mum knits him a new hat.

Dan, aka The Crow (http://www.soundclick.com/bands/5/thecrowvt.htm) has allowed me to record one of his songs, The Meeting Of Hands. I think it's a brilliant song, and I'm excited at the prospect of recording it myself.

Decided against the rack compressor - I might as well use the software one I have, and spend the money on other things:) First thing was a new Schaller soundhole pickup, so that's something new to play with - already recorded a rough version of The Flag by Martin Hollis, a friend of mine. A few more days work on it (amongst copious amounts of tea) and I'll have a nice new song!

Planning on investing on some new recording equipment, my microphones aren't too great and I fancy getting a nice rack-mounted compressor, isn't eBay our friend? Might try and get a couple more songs up from the back collection - enjoyed my #33 spot in the Acoustic Folk chart, Scots Wha' Hey and Raise your Hand seem to get quite a number of plays!

Uploaded "Raise Your Hand". It is one of five songs from the "Like Father, Like Son" EP I had been working on with a fellow songwriter. The lyrics and story behind the song are up, so you can check it out.

Began recording a song I've had on the back burner for a while now, "You Make Me So Proud". It's about a family who lose their father in the war.
In other news, I'll be putting up some songs from the Single Mic Sessions. The name says it all: one mic, no mastering or anything, just normalised volume and mp3'd. The first 2 to go up will be "Brand New" and "Scots Wha' Hey".
20/3
Uploaded four songs from The Tryst Workshop. Hoping to re-record a couple of the older songs, maybe going for the simple approach instead of layers.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I'm looking to set up coffee house gigs, and hope to play the wonderful Tchai-Ovna.
Your musical influences
Johnny Cash, Simon & Garfunkel, Badly Drawn Boy, Nick Drake, Papa M, Mogwai, Brendan Benson, Ben Folds.
Anything else?
All recording s are done in my little mini studio, and I most enjoy lo-fi recordings with one mic.

Hi,
never listened to your stuff before which seems really dum of me seeing as you've got a great collection of songs.
'Brand new' i really like.
Got to come back and listen to the rest later.
Thanks :)
Thanks for stopping by, Midge.
Glad the music is to your liking. No reason to put it on display if no one listens. That's why I love to cruise around and visit others to let others know someone is listening. There's a lot of fabulous music out here.
Stop on by anytime... the coffe's always hot.
Hey Midge - just listening to your songs. Under the Ice strikes me as a good dose of Britpop - music which takes me back to my younger days when i loved the whole British music scene; Example some of the stuff by Blur, or even Soft Boys from earlier times.
Raise your Hand - also a great song.
I gotta ask - why don't you sing with the thick Caledonian accent like the Proclaimers (another band that comes to mind). Is it just local dialect differences?
Good stuff - I'll keep listening
Jeff
Hi Midge.
I saw some of your posts on SC Seniors and popped in for a listen. You have a very nice folk style and good songwriting skills, as well as a nice voice and skills with the guitar. Good attributes for a musician indeed. About the only thing your works need is production techniques, just a bit of noise and mixing levels, nothing insurmountable. The quality of the music is certainly fabulous. Being an old porch musician a lot of my music is similar. I'm just am old folkie ex-hippie with a computer. I'm not perfect, that's for sure.
Just wanted to let you know I enjoyed going through your tunes. I particularly liked the guitar work in "We've Always Time".and the tune "Closely, Closely". Great work.

Hi Midge, My favorite of your music is 'Apologies' Like the lyrics and your voice is great in it. The song has the emotion I like. Wow, just realized i was the last poster, it's only taken me over a year to listen again :s You should have more comments though, i think you've got a real talent for writing songs and am quite envious. domj.
