Critically acclaimed blues rocker Laura Shawen has come home with plans to go on tour and release a new live blues album within the next year. She’s also scoring an upcoming rock opera for the theatre (more will be announced soon in an upcoming press release). Shawen has received numerous music awards and received rave reviews from publications such as R&R Magazine, The Washington Post, the San Diego Union Tribune, The Washington Times, and the Washington City Paper. Led by a takes no prisoners, tattooed, bad-ass, blues/rock singer and songwriter, the Laura Shawen Band will feature powerful original music, blues, and rock classics with their own flair. Raised on the music of Joplin, The Doors, Heart, and plenty of blues, Laura Shawen took on her first musical project as the sixteen-year-old singer for a cover band. The experience electrified her. But she needed to grow, and the small Maryland town she was raised in had a shortage of original venues and support. At the age of 20, she packed up and headed for the nearest big city—Washington, D.C. Thus began an odyssey through one city after another, one musician after another, one album after another. The result is a seasoned musician and the mature music she creates today. Throughout the years, Shawen has had the pleasure of playing such venues in the Washington/Baltimore area as the 9:30 Club, Bayou, Black Cat, 8x10, and innumerable smaller rooms. Elsewhere, she has graced the stages of CBGB and the Bitter End in New York, Eddie’s Attic in Atlanta and various clubs in Los Angeles including The Martini Lounge and The Gig Hollywood. With four co-produced albums under her belt, Shawen continues to provide substantial music that pleases intelligent listeners and unleashes the raw, seductive power of her compelling brand of music.
