Singer-songwriter Laura Shawen was for more than 15 years a critically acclaimed rock artist based in Washington D.C. and Los Angeles (read her reviews on the “Reviews†page of this Web site). Her voiceâ€deep and texturedâ€along with her formidable songwriting made her stand out from the pack, and people noticed. She recorded and helped produce four albums, some of them now sold-out, snatched up by her fans, many of whom have stayed with her for years.
In 2001 she suffered a severe back injury that made performing impossible for several years. In a complication to one of her back surgeries, she suffered multiple blood clots in her lungs, and doctors said she would never sing again.
But Laura Shawn refused to let the story end there. She worked out her voice until, despite all the odds, that distinctive voice came back, and her back has healed enough that she is ready to hit the circuit againâ€this time playing blues, one of her long-time loves.
Laura Shawen has a brilliant, enthusiastic, and time-tested band behind her that will include Darrell Bailey on lead guitar, Geoff Gill on bass and Jamie Watkins on Drums. Laura herself also plays rhythm guitar. The band plans to release a blues album within the next few months.
Like a phoenix, Laura Shawen is rising again
