CHiLLUM WOODS SOUND is fast establishing a reputation, both nationally, regionally and internationally, as a quality music production company that is raising the standard of the music industry, especially in East Africa. The co-directors are Gdava Woods and Akiiki Romeo. Our main project is CHiLLUM WOODS ROOTS, which is concious African roots reggae, produced here in Uganda. Our facilities are simple, yet effective and we do not embark on commercial studio work for ‘off-the-street’ musicians. To maintain our very high standards, we work on our own projects or with other musicians by invite only. This allows the producer to give the time and concentration needed to create international standard recordings and finished products. CHiLLUM WOODS SOUND works hard to ensure a fair deal for the musicians it works with, so that real music careers can be established, rather than ‘one-hit-wonders’. Social responsibility is very important to us and we undertake recordings in remote rural locations, as part of a project called ‘Kulinda Obuhangwa’ (Preserving Culture) which is empowering rural musicians to reach wider audiences and to preserve some of the endangered Ugandan traditional music.

Dear African music lover CHiLLUM WOODS SOUND is currently working on some fascinating projects, all with the same primary purpose: To document and help preserve Uganda's music and to provide access to this music for interested individuals and institutions throughout the world. We are at a crucial stage in our development, embarking on our most ambitious project yet, although sadly it is not directly making music: we are buying our own piece of Uganda, in beautiful, wild and remote Western Uganda, so we can start to develop CHiLLUM WOODS (the site). Starting with simple buildings to accommodate the directors, soon building the main studios and business offices, eventually leading to accommodation for guests (both musicians and tourists), performance areas and the CHiLLUM WOODS School of Music. We will be using local materials and building methods, with adaptations inspired by new technologies, to aim to create a self-sufficient site. We will be working closely with the local community for agriculture, fisheries, hospitality and labour, while also providing opportunities for education and training of sound engineers, performers and many others. The overall aim of the site is to create a sustainable 'village' which retains the atmosphere and ambiance of the remote African bush (with monkeys included!), which will support the Pearl of Africa in helping to inspire the world's greatest musicians. We are not a registered charity. We are a limited company at its early stages, trying to do music business in Uganda in a fair-trade way. If you would like to support our efforts by donating to CHiLLUM WOODS SOUND, or to a specific project, please contact us. Enjoy the music and be sure to spread the word about CHiLLUM WOODS SOUND. There are many exciting developments and, of course, more great Contemporary African Music from Uganda coming in the following weeks and months… With Best Wishes from Uganda!
