Face in the Mirror by Retrograde Pop aka Cam Bastedo
Jun 17, 2007
Artist: Retrograde Pop General Rock Please review Artist's SC Bandpage for further details. Other Artist Links: ARTIST COMMENTS: Face in the Mirror: This is a really strange one. I don't know exactly what I was writing about, but it sounds like guilt. This one was penned when I was 17 or 18. SOUNDCLICK FAM COMMENTS: "Face in the Mirror" by Retrograde Pop: Rock intro was fun, as were structure and lyrics. This track put a smile on this listeners face, and several chuckles with ease. The swaggering style, both vocally and in instrumentation, together with bubble effects and a toe-tapping beat scheme was simply too much for this one listener to sit during play. Loved the bubble-bloop at the end. Other Links: - An Index of SC MS Pages Thanks again for all your help, and for creating such a wonderful track! :)

* Blink of an Eye by Lynn Carey Saylor: Excellent female vocal matches superbly with the rock instrumentation, and a structure to reel this listener with every verse and chorus. Retail quality and sound perfectly suitable for cranking the volume up on any stereo system -- particularly one with four wheels and the top rolled down careening wildly down pavement, lending a wink to anyone who were to pull up alongside you. Lyrical content easy to relate with upon first listen, with great depth provided to most any listener seeking same. A superb listen. * Alone in a Box by Rey Varela: Soft, delicate intro laced with soothing electronic guitar playing, easy moving drums and instrumentation, and vocals to match lend to this track being suitable for reflection on life or for simple relaxation, and would be a most suitable play on any stereo, indoors or out. The change in drum rhythm was hardly noticeable as it snuck from light and jazzy to marching -- a superb contrast that came to becoming a bright and healthy mix, without losing any of the soothing ambience. Very pleasing to the ears. * Summer Breeze by Stefan Leipziger: A wonderful acoustic intro captures the ears instantly. Soft, light, and a clarity in the strings during fingerpicking render this track true to its title, for it really was much like listening to a soft Summer Breeze delicately playing and whispering with the breath of strings to tickle mother natures finest, along with one's heart and mind. It's enough to cause a wild beast to sigh and sleep with truly pleasant dreams. * (Temporarily) Bad Dream 2nd coming (PA) by Suspeckt: A Parental Advisory rap track that was like two tracks in one. A harsh message from an unborn child to its mother in the first half, detailing some of the more common crime and punishment experiences with a most eery effect from the childlike voices heard in the arrangement. The second half was perhaps a bit ambiguous, with biblical references, that carried same emotional ambience as the first half. * The Silver Cord by Watsonica: Beautiful vocals layered well in a mix of clear acoustic play and smooth beat rhythm that when combined with a catchy verse and chorus structure cause an attentive audience from most any ear lending a first listen, and a deep reflective one during multiple plays to follow. Soothing, relaxing, and deep in meaning. Selected tracks with Artist permission will be posted on http://www.myspace.com/soundclick in addition to http://www.soundclick.com/scfam All tracks are added to the appropriate SC FAM aka SoundClick FAM stations as follows: Non Parental Advisory: http://www.soundclick.com/mysoundclick/default.cfm?content=stations_edit&ID=543954 Parental Advisory: http://www.soundclick.com/mysoundclick/default.cfm?content=stations_edit&ID=546351 Selected FAM Tracks: Non Parental Advisory: http://www.soundclick.com/mysoundclick/default.cfm?content=stations_edit&ID=543956 Parental Advisory: http://www.soundclick.com/mysoundclick/default.cfm?content=stations_edit&ID=546349 All tracks under review for monthly selections are added on a continual, ever-changing basis here: http://www.soundclick.com/mysoundclick/default.cfm?content=stations_edit&ID=543955 Thank you, everyone!!! :D
June 2007 FAM Track Comments -- Part 2 of 3

* Plainsong by 2ndMouse: From what sounded like an elephant hiding in the structure to an interesting display of synths and sound effects in a varying structure gave this track attention. At 3:42 it ends, rather than 5:28, so a "trimming" might be in order. Excellent listening for work, sleep, or play, and would be a party favorite to anyone wanting quality sounds without drowning out discussions. * Soldier's Heart (Deployed Heart) by Val Cox: What a superb country voice! Great trills, vibrato, the right amount of twanginess in all the right places, with lyrics to cause nearly any soldier (or man, for that matter) envious of having such a loyal woman by his side. The chorus is catchy, and the guitar play was a great touch. * Home Sweet Home (PA) by Dickumz Da Ox: Flow, delivery, and rhyme scheme is smooth and intense, giving off an air of "jungle," with beat, vocal effects, and drum selection to match; all of which add to intensity of lyrical content. A great Hip Hop track suitable for anyone wanting a taste of the streets. * Mr. Fisher by Voodoo King: Another favorite among many fine tracks here at SC, this track reeks of beautiful vocals, intricate finger detail on acoustic guitar, a hint of strings, and lyrics surpassed only by the amazingly soft male vocals and delightful harmonies. An extremely emotional track to touch most hearts with a renewed outlook on life. * I Don't Want to be a Rock Star by Jim Mason and the Dreaded Bubbles: This track is not shy when it comes to displaying funk and pop-rock together; and when combined with the softness of layered vocals and acoustic this track is a pure entertainment with an uncommon structure. A great listen. * Bach's Bouree in Em by Peter Garland: Great finger movement and soft, clean touches on the strings of acoustic guitar cause this track to be another favorite for playing during focused work, studies, lounging around in an easy chair, or when having company over. A great play for relaxation. * Nothing Special (Brass Mix) by Superfoam: Get out your Spy Kit when listening to this track, as you'll be wanting to sneak around doing amazing stunts while listening. Action packed arrangement with the contrast of soft, deliberate piano to dance with horns and a schematic of multiple synth movement give an air of intensity mingled with some delicacy in a well-balanced mix. * Pat Stay - Starin' Out the Window (PA) by DopeMusic: Parental Advisory breathes heavily on this rap track, as does strong delivery, amazing flow, and mic presence chalk full of emotion. Lyrical content, although explicit, can be felt and easy to relate with by many Hip Hop members. * Face the Facts by Deptiva: An intro containing LP needle sounds swelling to introduce intense sounds of synths in this ambient electronica track made for a very contemplative track most excellent during work requiring intensity of focus, or for simple relaxation. A track to cause an active mind to most any listener. * I Cry by Tru La La: An amazing track with female vocals engorged with emotion on a smooth, R&B beat cause this track to be yet another favorite among some of the finest tracks here at SC. Lyrical content is easy to relate with for anyone who's had a broken relationship, with continual movement throughout its musical arrangement. A most excellent listen. * Escalantanda by Steve Gilmore and In No Sense: Spanish flavoring from well-defined acoustic guitars, intricate fingerpicking, and a well-introduced, sassy drum rhythm create a spectacular, World Fusion listen. A great addition to most any station from this very talented and supportive artist.
