Phantom, born Byron Lavender, benefited not only from the churchs emphasis on music, but his familys active involvement as well. He started playing the piano and keyboard during services at the age of 10, joining his father and brother who were also church musicians, and his mother and sisters who were singers in the choir. By age 12, Phantoms love of music led him to try his hand at other genres of music as well. Joining the school band while still in elementary school, he played percussion through high school, where he soon discovered just what he could do as a producer. At 14, Phantom would skip classes, sneak into the band room at Booker High School, playing around on his teachers T3 Korg, creating undeniable beats that lead him to pursue a career in music. Just making tracks for the love of music at the time, he would give away his creations to local artists.
In February 2002, he launched his own company, Phantom Sound Production,Inc. , offering not only music production but studio engineering, music lessons, and vocal arrangements, all provided by Phantom himself, along with his services as a studio musician.
Now boasting a clientele that includes Florida legend JT Money, Scream Tour alums Pretty Ricky, and Ozone Magazine mainstay Haitian Fresh. With the May 07 release of Phantom Sound Production Compilation, Vol. 2 and projects with Acafool, Guerilla Pimp and many more, Phantoms reputation is sure to spread way beyond the Sunshine State.
