Starting her musical career when other girls her age were playing with Barbi Dolls and "Easy Bake Oven's", she began sharpening her keen ear for music when she used to make up impromptu songs to her father's guitar playing. The Turner parents pleasantly surprised at how vocally gifted their youngest daughter was, they encouraged her to pursue her dreams. To understand who Ghagged is an an artist, one only has to understand where she came from - when her parents were hard at work, she had the best baby-sitters possible - greats like Big Daddy Kane, Slick Rick and EPMD kept the young Markesha occupied. That strong foundation would later serve her well when it came to crafting metaphors, similes, and thesaurus scrolling wordplay. Her love for MC Lyte's "Lyte as a Rock" video, as well as other notable female emcees of the past like Roxanne Shante & Antoinette, would let her know that being an unstoppable estrogen filled force behind the microphone was completely possible.
Her wonderful singing voice and love for soulful crooners like Stevie Wonder, Mariah Carey, and Donny Hathaway would just add on to Markesha's arsenal - making her a triple threat in terms of rhyming, singing, and songwriting - truly making her a force to be reckoned with.
