ive been playing guitar since 9th grade. in and out of different bands, almost all of them original. not a whole lot of covers. this is where i store everything. there will be solo material recorded on 4 track cassette machines, to studio stuff, and living room recordings of my band. more to come... check out my Myspace Music page:
Band/artist history
i was once in a band called Illuminatus! with Tony Mentzer -bass/vox, and Tom Sailor -rhythm gtr/vox, in Youngstown Ohio. then i moved to florida to go to school. eventually i answered an ad in the local rag and we became Bricktop, With Ed Gies -bass, and Mike Pugh, -drums. we were a good band, if i do say so myself. but we self destructed after Mike suddenly quit. then i basicly did alot of home recording. anywhere i could get my hands on a multitrack. i worked in a recording studio for a while as an engineer, and did some recording there as well. years pass, and i get a "regular" job, and on the first day there i meet a co-worker who is a guitar player, and he instantly takes a liking to me, and we form another band, -of sorts, -called Music For The Schitsofrenic. -more of a recording project than a real band. that is still an ongoing project. when we recruted a drummer for the Schitsofrenic, i instantly took a liking to HIM, and a short while later, we formed the band im currently in. so the current band, TURN LEFT- is me on guitar, Ed Gies from Bricktop on Bass, and Zack Byrd on drums. i write most of the songs and we improvise alot. -ALOT. we are currently seeking another member. one who can play guitar or keys (better yet), and sing and write their own lyrics. i write some, but i have a hard time playing and singing at the same time.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
My current band TURN LEFT, plays whenever we can.
Your musical influences
this is where is gets weird, because an influence is just that. an influence. it doesent nessessarily mean that this is who or what we sound like. there are elements in there, but only trace elements. i make up my own stuff, and we all play what we feel like, so anything can happen. but if you wanted a list of influences, and /or who i like to listen too and respect, here it is: Frank Zappa, Mike Keneally, Jing Chi, Tom Waits, Captain Beefheart, The Beatles, John Lennon, George Harrison, Django Reinhardt, Adrain Belew, Howlin' Wolf, King Crimson, The Mars Volta, Robert Fripp, Jeff Beck, Mattias Ia Eklundh, Phil Keaggy, Pink Floyd, Charles Mingus, the Allman Brothers, the frames, Medeski Martin and Wood, Love, Steely Dan, Andy Summers, The Yardbirds, Bob Dylan, U2, Tony Mentzer, Syd Barrett, Glass Harp... LOTS more... but thats just me.
What equipment do you use?
i recently revamped my entire setup. ive got a Peavey Delta Blues 115. my guitars are a Dean Caddillac, an ESP Strat, and an Epiphone Sheraton 335 semihollow as my main guitars, allthough i occasionally break out the FrankenStrat, and i play Eds Coral Sitar. he also has a FINE american Stratocaster, and a 1st year Squire Telecaster. IVE got too damn many guitars... uugh guitar to a crybaby, modified for true bypass and the sweep has been modded as well, into the amp. on the effects loop i have a BiYang Phase, to a Korg 301DL delay. the amp has a built in tremolo. i run it full out with a Tube Juice Power Soak, so i dont rip zacks face off at rehersals. all the guitars have been modified with various different pickups (another hobby), and the amp has special select tubes as well. for the living room recordings i have mics on just about everything, running into a Peavy 6 ch mini mixer. i get a decent stereo mix going, and record it to the computer using its original soundcard. about as low budget of a recording as you can get, and still have something decent to listen too. i record using Cool Edit Pro, and i dont use any effects. unless you call some post compression as an effect. -which i dont.
Anything else?
thank you and good night!!
