"Graphs and tables can hardly relate the acutely personal story of a child in a remote valley, his horizon of opportunity limited to the enclosing hills..."FDR Jr. on his 1964 study of Appalachia

Growing up we were unable to identify with the canned commercial music being force fed to us through cable/sattelite tv and high powered urban Fm stations pumped out from cities many miles away.Faced with the prospect of growing up to be line dancing rednecks or wannabe peckerwood gangstas, our only relief was to hook up a long piece of wire to our boom box anttenaes and stay up late nights so we could discover strange new music on a distant college stations(wicb91.7fm,wvbr 93.5Fm),something we could call our own, there was punk rock, ska, and all different kinds of metal(not the stuff your T'bird driving, mullet sporting, uncle listened to)and other strange music words cannot explain. We'd record the entire show on cassette tapes to play in our walkmans on the hour long bus ride to school. From these staticky bits we found our identity and inspiration, the sound that would become Clutter.-UPDATE!DUE TO A CANADIAN BAND HAVING THE SAME NAME WE MUST RENAME.WE ARE NOW RANZATSU,or CLUTTER IN JAPANESE.

Band/artist history

Clutter began sometime around spring 1995 when Keith Lame got a cheap ass guitar and started banging out punk rock.He eventually met skater/scientist/engineer Kosh Gweedo, after flirting with another drummer,a few guitarists,a harmonica player of all things, and calling themselves the Noodies they took a break while Kosh went to school, eventually Kosh came home for break and introduced young Mark Mayhem to Lame and they jammed out for a bit.Mayhem invited Peak, made lots of noise, organized it into something resembling a song,Peak citing creative differences leaves the band, they are once again a power trio.Having a whole lot of songs they call themselves Clutter until the Canadian Gov't imforms us that there is already a Clutter up north and is willing to fine us lots of loonies...Since Kosh is studying Japanese he suggest we change our name without changing the meaning, hence RANZATSU is born.

Your musical influences

We listen to(and people say they here in us:)bands such as:Fugazi,Man or Astroman,Brainiac,The velvet Underground,REM,AFI,Eels,Sonic Youth,Devo, Modest Mouse...Basically we like Noisy feedbacking guitars that can also be melodically beautiful,Bass grinding, thumping, racing drums pounding furiously into the slightest whisper of vocals harmonized into the savage screams of a sentient who realizes the universes is imploding and exploding at the same time...Did we mention Slayer?

Anything else?
