Brian Ray was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. When he was 3, his older sister Jean would baby-sit him and play music by various great artists such as Elvis, Little Richard and the Everly Brothers. The music touched his soul and lit a fire inside of him. He knew what he wanted to do when he grew up.
Inspired by the Beatles, and other artists of the time, Brian began playing guitar at the age of 9. And now he plays guitar and bass with Paul McCartney, performing before audiences in stadiums and arenas throughout the world.
Brian has enjoyed a varied musical career to date, which includes a 14 year stint as guitarist and musical director for legendary blues singer Etta James. He has performed with a who’s who of music, sharing stages with Keith Richards, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, Carlos Santana and Rory Gallagher. He has toured extensively with Johnny Hallyday and Rita Coolidge among others and has recorded on numerous albums, spanning the genres from rock to pop to rhythm-and-blues. He has worked as a film scorer - see the recently released “the Failures” - as well as a music producer. He wrote, arranged and played on Smokey Robinson’s hit song, “One Heartbeat,” which has chalked up well over two million airplays.
“Mondo Magneto” is Brian’s first solo album and is due to be released at the end of February 2005. Tracks include “Night Is Callin’”, which is a ferocious rocker recorded with Abe Laboriel Jr. [also from Paul McCartney’s band] on drums and Scott Shriner from Weezer on bass. "Soft Machine" is a big, tough, bluesy track with a haunting melody and aggressive lyric [by Tonio K.] about mankind's sometimes unkind ways. "Anywhere But Home" is a song Brian wrote about a kid growing up in a broken home.
