Band/artist history
Brian Ray was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. When he was 3, his older sister Jean would baby-sit him and play music by various great artists such as Elvis, Little Richard and the Everly Brothers. The music touched his soul and lit a fire inside of him. He knew what he wanted to do when he grew up.
Inspired by the Beatles, and other artists of the time, Brian began playing guitar at the age of 9. And now he plays guitar and bass with Paul McCartney, performing before audiences in stadiums and arenas throughout the world.
Brian has enjoyed a varied musical career to date, which includes a 14 year stint as guitarist and musical director for legendary blues singer Etta James. He has performed with a whos who of music, sharing stages with Keith Richards, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, Carlos Santana and Rory Gallagher. He has toured extensively with Johnny Hallyday and Rita Coolidge among others and has recorded on numerous albums, spanning the genres from rock to pop to rhythm-and-blues. He has worked as a film scorer - see the recently released the Failures - as well as a music producer. He wrote, arranged and played on Smokey Robinsons hit song, One Heartbeat, which has chalked up well over two million airplays.
Mondo Magneto is Brians first solo album and is due to be released at the end of February 2005. Tracks include Night Is Callin, which is a ferocious rocker recorded with Abe Laboriel Jr. [also from Paul McCartneys band] on drums and Scott Shriner from Weezer on bass. "Soft Machine" is a big, tough, bluesy track with a haunting melody and aggressive lyric [by Tonio K.] about mankind's sometimes unkind ways. "Anywhere But Home" is a song Brian wrote about a kid growing up in a broken home.
In advance of the album, Brian has released a track called Comin Up Roses as a free download. The song was written by Brian with Tonio K. and was recorded by the amazing Joe Zook at Track Record in North Hollywood on Dec. 28th '04.

Hey Brian, good to see you with Paul McCartney on SNL last weekend. Would love to hear more solo stuff!
Hi Brian - just listening to Good For Nothing and Comin' Up Roses - Lot's of Tom Petty in there, beatles etc. and I'm sure even more YOU!! Good stuff - Are you going to put a few more tunes on?
Drop by if you have a chance...Bruce
This is my "start-up-the-morning" song. It uplifts your soul! Ahhh, it's already stuck in my head and heart!
love the tune "Coming up Roses"...very catchy...sticks in my head.
It's good to be Le Roi! Great theme song for the Rose Bowl. Would you turn up the drums please? :o) Very catchy chorus melody. Love the middle instrumental. Great drum rhythm for a rock song! Fantastic backing vocals - chorus and lead. My only concern is that once this is played in my car... I'm going to blow right through a speed trap! If the rest of Magneto holds to this standard... oh boy... sun is shining, top is down and the cost of driving just went up! BRING IT ON!!!
PS. Just what did the Dirt Brothers say at the end??? :o
