Council makes holiday official

First Columbus Council declared it an official holiday city workers can take off; now it's an official city celebration.
Having made Columbus Day a city holiday back in February, the Columbus Consolidated Government's now planning a big party on the riverfront 5-7 p.m. Monday, the day the holiday's to be observed.
The party starts with "a short program" at Bay Avenue and 10th Street, followed by live music that includes jazz by the Ed Cox Trio, bluegrass and country by the Bibb City Ramblers, and Motown sounds from the Metra Balladeers, according to the city manager's office.
Everything's free except the food, which vendors are expected to sell. Any vendors who want to get in on this event should e-mail Steve Morse at morse_Stephen@colstate.edu.
