Acid Jazz

From the shadows of mainstream music a small group of rebels battle the boring beats. These heroes cherish interactive music and from their open minds irresistable grooves grow organically. Shadow Magnetic plays grooves with a nu-jazz flavour that originated from improvisation and that keep on evolving every time they are played. The instrumentals can be characterized as filmic scenes with different moods: We provide the soundtrack to your imagination
Band/artist history
The band members of Shadow Magnetic have all played with another member at some point in time, but never all at once. It was decided to start something new, a musical adventure. Musically, it is a crossroad because each member has a different background. But all the elements fit in naturally.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Our music requires a stage because of the interaction and improvisation.
Your musical influences
Some records that influenced us: Jaga Jazzist - Living Room hush Prince - Rainbow Children Fela Kuti - Best Of Medeski, Martin & Wood - whatever
What equipment do you use?
Our aim is to use electronics as just another live instrument and mix it with the other live instruments. No sequences. The list of equipment keeps evolving, however, we must mention that we are very fond of the led-display of the Line6 rackmount delaymodeller, especially when starting it up ;-)
Anything else?
Band members: Warner Werkhoven - Rhodes & synthesizers Wilfred de Leeuw - guitar Erik Biermans - bass Karin - vocal Peter Steenbakkers - saxes Richard Smulders - drums Rik van den Hurk - percussion Martijn Maas - guitar & percussion & samples
