Hey buddy, haven't heard a peep out of you in a long time. I'm just making sure you're writing music instead of lying on the couch watching TV all day.

Well, I'm late as usual! You are definetely getting better with your percussion. I've always been a fan of the way you layer your brass lines, and the panning works really well. I've been doing a lot of instrument rock stuff recently, but I hope to get back into symphonic writing in the near future. Thanks for keeping in touch. You know what to do. -Ian

Hey Roger, ITS BEEN A LONG TIME! I apologize for that. Anyhow, I just listened to your new Battle March. Great brass licks! It reminds me of the cool lines in the Warcraft II soundtrack. And actually, the tone out of the midi brass is actually pretty good. Usually midi woodwinds though make me throw up a little inside, haha. ROGER DID NOT USE MIDI WW's IN THIS SONG. Anyhow, I've been pushing my boundaries a little and writing different stuff using FL studio, and I should have a Boss Battle Theme posted in the next few days. I started it yesterday and am about a quarter through, so I'll hopefully finish it up here soon. Anyway, I hope all is well with you, and as always, inform me of your new releases. -Ian Shedd

Heyo, Sorry it took me so long. I got really excited when I found out that job + no bills = money. So ive been on a purchasing rampage. I calmed down a little this morning, so I am in the right mood to listen to music. I know you dont like finishing things. . . but i think it really paid off to showcase these pieces in their entirety! Your ostinuto part writing is pretty killer, and you blend classical writing with your own style very well. I will say a few things about the three pieces, and you can use or lose the information however you like. Overture: sometimes the low part - which in ostinuto writing tends to drive the groove of the piece - sometimes gets buried beneath the other parts when they get added in. Also, maybe consider crescendo-ing the new repeating parts to make the piece more smooth and to add to the building effect of the piece. Battle: My only thing is you may want to consider adding a snare part. In my writing i was often told to add more percussion, and

Hi Roger, thank u 4 your kind reply. I'm gald u liked my music. In fact my song "Ouverture" will b the introduction of my musical project. That's y it has that suspens. The theme will b repeated a few times during the whole show with different arrangements. There's a second part 2 it, where the music grows onto a major modulation that enlightens the atmosphere (oops, I'm not sure if my english is comprehensible..?). "The rain" also has a second part with a modulation on F major but I would like 2 rearange the whole track with better MIDI material... I will listen 2 your new works & comment then. C U, - sara -

Thanks for commenting back! I was going to add Vivaldi as a "sounds like", but I forgot.. lol Several other people have made the comparison, too. The Yamaha DGX520 is a pretty neat portable. I forget, is that the portable with weighted keys? They've made quite a few that I like. I owned a PSR GX76 about six years ago.. I think it had 32 note polyphony, which was pretty good, considering. Right now, I use a Yamaha P120 digital stage piano and my Yamaha Motif ES8 workstation/synthesizer. The P120 has pretty good sound, but the keys are a little too heavy and dead. The Motif ES8 has better action and the sound is unbelievable. Plus, they're running through M-Audio BX5's, which is simply stunning.. It's a great inspiration for composing any kind of music. I can imagine how hard it is to record MIDI, especially if your MIDI controller isn't low latency. Do you have any trouble with latency? I can definitely hear the difference in the first and last Fate pieces. I'

Hi Roger, I was just browsing through fellow artists and listened to a couple of movements from your Rage symphony. You're recording straight from MIDI playback, right? It's really tough to get MIDI to sound exactly the way you want it to.. Something you might want to try is to export each instrument to WAV and then import the WAV files so that you can use reverb effects, compressors, etc. and then export to MP3. But, I thought it sounded pretty good for MIDI. Plus, if you do export to WAV first, you can compress the drums so that they're always at the right velocity, but aren't distorting the master. I tend to focus on overall theme development, but I liked a lot of the chord transitions and intervals. I'll have to come back and listen to some of your piano work. Take care. http://www.soundclick.com/lukejim

Hey Roger Just listened to your newly posted 'Finale'. . . was the old recording just piano or something? The new recording sounds way cool. You're gonna have to change the 'skript from "rough draft" to "really cool and finished-y." Are you updating more of your tunes? It raises the listening enjoyment tenfold! -Ian

Hi Roger, Thank u very much for your nice words about DELETED ITEM. I am listening to your music as I write. Keep it going, some very good ideas, have u tryed using EDIROL ORCHESTY as a plug in? the sound of instruments r very good and close to actual instruments, even the piano. Good Luck!

Hey just finished listening to your rage symphony. I suck at piano writing, and I am learning a fair bit from "Rage." Quality music for sure! See you around. -Ian

Thank you very much for your comments. "A Summer's Serenade" is the complete piece, but I actually might make more movents for it. Thank you for your advice. About your music: I really like it. Especially Serenade in A Minor. Might I make a suggestion? I see that you use Fruity Loops. Well, and this is only if you can affort it, but there are these libraries that you might've heard of (that I use) called East West Quantum Leap Symphonic Orchestra which work out really well. They've...revolutionized my compositions. It might give your Cellos and Violins more realism. Now, I see that you started out like I did. Except...I started out at a much later age...and not a piano, just a keyboard. I am now, though, taking piano lessons to improve my playing. Well, I just wanted to thank you for your comments. Sincerely, Luis

Hey Thanks! The only thing I use for the Symhonic tunes is Finale 2006. The package comes with the Garritan Personal Orchestra. its like 350 bucks all together, but considering its a music writing program AND professionally done samples, it is well worth it! You would definetly be able to do cool stuff with the program! I actually have a friend that does songs similar to yours. I go to his house just to hear him play live, cuase he doesnt have the means to record well. So I can totally imagine watching you play during your songs here. Keep up the great work. You're a remarkable player, and I hope to hear some more tunes out of you!

I feel I havent said this enough, but not enough composers realize how much a great melody can do for a piece. "Fate in D minor" is an excellent example. GREAT melody, drew my in right away.
