The Lie The Lie
This is the last thing we did as a group. It was recorded "live" in the studio with one take and was supposed to just be a practice run.
Languid Velvet Goddess Languid Velvet Goddess
Let your brain wrap around these lyrics and let it mean what it means to you.
Hindsight Hindsight
This is the song that started it all . . . contemporary poetry backed by the smooth and sexy sax and beat bass stylings of the original Jazza Diction.
Jazza Diction refused to color in the lines. We boasts the best in word jazz and liked to stretch out on occasion to promote the idea that music is music, Daddy-O!
After three EP's and two LP's, the band parted company due to artistic differences, but aimably.
Brian, Don, Ray and Tim still perform as Storm Train and I (Jef) am looking to revive Jazza Diction with new musicians.Band/artist history
Here's what Cristy from Score! Magazine had to say about our first LP:
Band name: Jazza Diction
Album title: Can Ya Dig It?
Location: Oregon
Initial Impression: My little heart leaped when "Life According to Don" immediately reminded me of The Doors' "The End" with its spoken word nature.
Notable Lyric: "Yeah, I got a penis, you want it? It's yours, no strings attached. Don't forget to feed it, but don't let it get fat. It's been nothing but trouble, I think I'd like to see it go." from the hep-cat "Hindsight"
Factoid: The message "Jazza Diction is temporarily defunct due to a conflict of artistic opinion" is displayed on their website, www.bluestonealliance.org/jazzadiction/
Serve With: This album is the perfect accompaniment to gray rainy day and a room warmed with a multitude of scented candles.
Comments: This CD is rife with diverse styles that somehow gel into a cohesive and thoroughly enjoyable experience. In true spoken-word beatnik style, these songs tend to go on awhile (only two of them are under four minutes), and the lyrical/poetic content utilizes cool intellectual humor to make pointed social commentary. Although songs like "Colors" and "What Else Matters?" have a folksy feel to them, and "Desdemona Sand" is reminiscent of Shawn Mullins first CD Soul's Car (No, not the hit "Lullabye"), others kick in with a smooth jazz, blues and light reggae bounce. My hope is that the "defunct" part of Jazza Diction is very temporary.

And here's what Mark Scudder of EvolutionRadio thought of our second LP:
Jazza Diction blends diverse musical styles into a cohesive, beatnik-style spoken-jazz powerhouse... good music for rainy days and introspective moments...Have you performed in front of an audience? When we were together we played live as often as possible, tearing up Oregon's rugged north coast with our unique stylings. We all loved the rush that comes from an appreciative crowd and our music was VERY well received. The most special moment for me was when an older lady and a teen girl came up to the stage after a gig and the older woman asked me for an autograph. I asked her what her name was and she said "Cindy." I wrote something to the effect of "Thanks for supporting Jazza Diction, Cindy" along with my sig and handed it back to her. She read it then said "I'm sorry, my name is Cindy, but I wanted the autograph for my grandaughter, Julie" and pointed to the teenage girl "She's too shy to ask herself but she absolutely loves your music."
That was too cool for words, hearing a young person "got it."
Your musical influences
My chief influences (having been a beat poet in another life) are Alan Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. The band itself drew inspiration from hundreds of household names and quite a few obscure musicians. What equipment do you use?
I write the words and play sax, bass and percussion. Ray played sax, flute, keys and tres. Brian was the main singing vocalist and played guitars and tres. Don played bass and guitars. Tim and Jeff were the two drummers and Jeff played guitars and sang as well.Anything else?
Man . . . wasn't that enough? You don't know what you're asking, so I'm going to let you off easy and say, "no, there's nothing else" while doing the pee-pee dance and biting my tongue.
