Zanois' debut full-length is a beautifully spacey mix of psychedelic lo-fi indie music, with the occasional bossa nova thrown in. Catchy and upbeat one moment, melancholy and calming the next, "In The Event of Moon Disaster" was written and recorded entirely in the month of February 2008. The "group" is actually a multi-instrumentalist known simply as Zane who, throughout the record, supplies a variety of musical styles through his ability to command nearly every instrument to his own liking. A concept album about the Apollo 11 mission, "In The Event Of Moon Disaster" is definitely a worthwhile listen.
Band/artist history
Zanois is primarily Zane, who started recording solo material in late 2005, originally under the moniker Zane And No-one Else. He continued this until his debut album (for 2007 RPM Challenge), and spent some time under the name "Zane Noises". Later forming a live band (Zane And His Imaginary Band), he eventually decided that for semi-legal and other reasons, that all projects of his (solo and band) would fall under the name "Zanois."
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I've played a couple of shows before, and I'm starting to play alot more often now, especially with the summer coming soon. So far, I have only had the opportunity to play in the New England area, or in the virtual world, on Second Life. I always appreciate it if someone will find me a gig, no matter where it is.
Your musical influences
Wilco, The Flaming Lips, The Apples in Stereo, Sufjan Stevens, Modest Mouse, Shugo Tokumaru, Lima Research Society, Math the Band, The Beatles, Beck, of Montreal, Grandaddy, White Stripes, Arctic Monkeys, Michel Gondry, Postal Service, Ben Folds, Snowman Hospital, The Unicorns, Islands, The Gothic Archies, The Strokes, Interpol, and many more... Alot of psychedelic and indie stuff.
What equipment do you use?
For keys and synth noises and such, I use a nice 76-key Casio, along with an old Casiotone and various Goodwill keyboards. For bass parts, I play a Danelectro Longhorn, and a Bogdon Box Bass. I also play acoustic guitar, drums, percussion, glockenspiel, and an Avila banjo. Other equipment varies.
Anything else?
