I'm yasSon. I have been beatboxing for about 9 years now and about 6 years live. I am part of a beatbox trio called Corroboree, we do shows around the U.K and we teach, so feel free to get in touch if you want any lessons for your area.
Band/artist history
As i said, i have been beatboxing for 9 years and about 6 year's live. I have performed around the country. Plus various open mics, university ball's and festivals.
I also won the 2003(a) King of the Jam - www.kingofthejam.com
Have you performed in front of an audience?
I perform at the open mic night in 'The Chichester Inn' on Thursdays. As i said before we have started doing beatbox workshops. I suppose a memorable moment was at the first festy this year, when a 4 yr old we were teaching, came out with 'Smoke on the water' by meowing it, then we did caberate with all the kids and my mate had him on his knee, he provided him with a beat and he meow'd away. was so so cool!
Your musical influences
I would have to say my influences on my beatboxing are, Saian supa crew (they got me into it), Rahzel (for the raw power and comedy), Kenny Muhammed (for his fluid technical beats), Killa Kela (for his wide array of styles and for pioneering new sounds). Then the music that inspires me in my own music, Mr. Bungle, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, Pearl Jam, Vision of Disorder, Phillip Glass, Andrea Bonacheilli, Cradle of Filth, Sublime, Qbert, Mixmaster Mike. I appreciate a wide array of music. I see music as a whole rather than single genres. I either like it or i don't.
What equipment do you use?
I use a Shure SM58 mic with a Nvida Nforce soundcard. Live, i use an Sm58 mic through either a pre-amp, mixing desk or a turntable mixer, depending where i am.
Anything else?
I wanna tell everyone that, ANYBODY CAN BEATBOX... DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE. www.HUMANBEATBOX.com is where you go to learn beatboxing, it's the whole worldwide beatboxing community in one forum!
