Through Your Eyes Through Your Eyes
An out of the ordinary (wry) new beginning (dawn), we are a Dallas-Fort Worth based quartet who play an eclectic mix of "grass-rock" tunes --a mixture of folk, blues, rock, and of course bluegrass. With a full P.A. system and the willingness to travel, we write original music and have a varied collection of cover tunes on tap, ranging from Johnny Cash to Snoop Dogg, the Waterboys to Wilco, gospel favorites to old blues tunes.
Band/artist history
Wry Dawn has been performing since the Winter of 02, when three musicians fell in with each other at an open jam in "Deep Ellum", the ever intriguing music district of Dallas. Eclectic in interests and experimental in outlook, they formed an acoustic trio. The months went by, with numerous unusual original songs coming to light, along with a strangely eclectic set of cover tunes. They were on to something, as suggested in the name they chose for the group, meaning unusual beginning. The band went through several changes, but eventually one original member, D.W. Hadley (guitar, bass, harmonica), was joined by Eric Kotara (mandolin), Paul Caceres (guitar), and Gary Castleberry (drums), with numerous friends and acquaintances sharing the stage at times. All current members show that original flair for something different, and all bear an attitude that says, Lets make a difference, one show at a time, through music. We find it significant that the current members of Wry Dawn represent four different age-decades (20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s), and that this eclectic blend of youth and experience, mirroring the eclectic music produced by the group, suggests that something unusual -- and worthwhile! -- has indeed come to light in Wry Dawn.
Have you performed in front of an audience?
We play live quite often in the Dallas-Fort Worth part of Texas, but have traveled within Texas (Odessa and Austin, for example!). Do we like playing live? Heavens, yes! That's why we do this, it seems. All sorts of special moments for us last fall, but one in particular came at an outdoor show in downtown Dallas where we recruited a group of kids to play tambourine and egg shakers and other percussion instruments on stage with us... We got the whole Plaza rockin...with these kids right there, center stage. They were beaming. We were beaming. Got an e-mail from the mom the next day, who told us that her kids couldn't stop talking about that experience... Wry Dawn! (Er, Right on!)
