I was born William Allen Armfield in Kokomo, Indiana in 1950. I studied music from age 6 to age 18. I was involved in folk music all through high school, sang in local groups and planned on furthering my musical education in college. Unfortunately, I allowed myself to get sidetracked by the U.S. Army. After a tour in Vietnam I was discharged and it seemed I just couldn't get back on track musically. I went to college in wildlife management, got out of college, got a job, got married, got a job, bought a house, got a job, moved south, got a job on a survey crew working in the Glades and on the beaches, the roads and highways of beautiful South Florida for 25 years.
Now I'm retired and back at music. I've written a few songs and I'll have them on this web site. If you like them tell me so. If not, well you can tell me that too. I plan on singing as long as my voice holds out and writing until they take me out of the house toes up. Hopefully, that won't be for quite a while, so check back now and then for new songs!
Thank you, Willie Allen, Sage of the Acreage
Oh, Yeah, I fish a lot!!
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Yes, every time I can talk somebody into it!
Your musical influences
John Prine, John Hartford, Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Bob Dylan, Pete Seeger, Phil Ochs, Peter, Paul and Mary, Joan Baez, Willie Nelson, Buffy Saint-Marie, Hank Williams, Donovan and the list goes on and on. When you've lived as long as I have you end up with a lot of influences.
What equipment do you use?
Martin, Gibson and Ibanez guitars plus a whole bunch of other equipment I don't know much about.
Anything else?
Let me tell you a little bit about my music. I moved to South Florida in 1983 from the big town of Lafayette, Indiana. At the moment I stepped out of my truck and put my foot on South Florida soil I fell in love with the place - the sky, the beaches, the Everglades and the people - an eclectic mix from all over the country and all over the world. When I write music I try to paint a picture, warts and all, of the people, places and things that mean the most to me.
Thanks again, Willie Allen
