We are WHO KILLED MARILYN? and we are the future of alternative music.
It all began December 2003 in the very metal leaning city of Cleveland, Ohio when two members started to record a few demo tracks with Rick Thomas of Mushroomhead. Through these demo’s, the buzz of what would be who killed marilyn? had been born. After completing the first wkm? line-up in January 2004, Christopher Marinin felt it was time to debut the demo tracks on the radio only after officially being a band for a few weeks. This effort turned out to be a wise move as it gained much attention for the unknown band and stimulated questions about when the band would be playing shows. who killed marilyn? played their first two shows in a desolate city of Sandusky Ohio in the rainy month of April. It was at this point that original guitarist Nick Licata was replaced by Rick Bowser formerly of Filicide. Playing several more shows in Cleveland over the next month, wkm? did not connect with their crowd as much as they did on May 7th 2004 at Peabody’s Downunder, headlining the second stage to a sold out crowd. It was at this point that Cleveland had finally shown interest in the alternative rock scene. Over the summer, wkm? embarked on a regional touring fiasco across Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and New York to help strengthen a fan base beyond Cleveland. Soon after coming back from the tour, wkm? suffered its biggest blow when 3 members had quit the band a week before entering the studio to record their first EP. This move, although tough, proved to be a blessing in disguise. Christopher and Rick not known to give up had pushed forward gaining the help of Steve Rauckhorst, bassist of Victory Records RINGWORM, Greg Haberak, drummer of Murder Revolution, and our old friend Rick Thomas from Mushroomhead on keyboards. These three helped shape the future direction of wkm?. who killed marilyn? restarted their music career on September 24, 2004 at another sold out Peabody’s show after a 4-month hiatus from the scene. Original drummer John Badzinski had re-joined, bringing along Blayne James on keys and samples. The next key was acquiring bassist Eric Dolence to complete the current wkm? line up. In October 2004 wkm? recorded their first self-titled release. Before the December CD Release, Further Seems Forever had asked for wkm? to open for them during their trip through Cleveland. With very minimal promotion, who killed marilyn? proved to be a large draw in Cleveland, selling out their CD Release show beyond capacity. Since then, wkm? has sold out several other shows and continues to play regionally. This summer who killed marilyn? plans to complete a 20+ show tour in the eastern portion of the United States, completely D.I.Y. in hopes of gaining attention from a few select record labels that have the same vision for the future of alternative rock.
We play live as much as possible. Usually all over the region, and we have played as many venues in Cleveland as any other band. We are breaking the local mode and touring through 26 cities this summer. Eventually our slogan will be "ON TOUR FOREVER" That is the true goal!
Oh geez, we are influenced much differently than each other much like any cross-genre' band. Everything from Mr. Bungle, to Thrice, to Boy Sets Fire, to Linkin Park...we just love music, and it has always been a strong part all of our lives.
We have so much equipment its hard to list. We use all the big names...Marshall, Gibson, Mesa, Zjildian, Ernie Ball, Dunlop...all that jazz, for a complete listing check out our website!
WE WANT TO SLEEP ON YOUR FLOOR! Look forward to meeting you all on our quest across the country!
