Wannamaker is a great new band that has just recently formed within the last two years. In the beginning, it was Chris Pegel, Dave Crawford and Mike Miller. Chris was writing the songs and the three guys played without bass or percussion. In the last few months they've been joined by a phenominal drummer Leon Mez. Leon blended well with what the founding three were already doing.Chris had been writing and singing the songs, and playing an electric accoustic guitar. Dave was doing his thing on the electric as lead guitarist. Mike started off playing keyboards, but when it was apparent that a bass player was needed, Mike decided to start sequencing the keyboard tracks and bought a bass. Little did he know, he's a natural bass player! Dave is on a sabbatical out in Edmonton, so Todd Phillips has taken his place and is running with it!
The music is partly influenced by artists like Led Zeppelin, Neil Young and Tom Petty. These artists' influences can be heard in the songwrting and rythyms. Some other more recent artists' influences include bands like Guns n Roses, Sublime and Our Lady Peace.
Many of the songs are really up-beat, hard-rockin tunes. Just as many are a little slower and very melodic with powerful, meaningful lyrics. Some of the songs are about silly things that are just fun to rock-out to. One of our more famous tunes to date, titled "For F!@k Sakes Tony" tells about a guy that Chris used to work with who was a complete moron. It holds some comedic value and it puts a smile on your face. On the softer side, their song titled "Tread", is a song Chris wrote describing how he felt the moment his daughter was born. Here's a quote from the lyrics "I'm gonna give her all my wisdom, so she can tread throughout her own kingdom". The listener really gets a feel for the moment in time he was trying to capture.
Here's a brief break-down of the band's Structure.
Mike Miller: Bass/Digital Music Programmer (Keyboards)/Vocals
Chris Pegel: Lead Vocals/Guitar/Songwriter
Todd Phillips: Guitar
Leon Mez: Percussion
