A new millennium is upon us and you are about to be introduced to an artist that has been making noise in the hip-hop arena for over 10 yrs. now. No stranger to rippin mics and leaving crowds in a sweat, we are talking to you about the hip-hop/rap artist VOICE. His name comes from the book of John Meaning "The voice of one crying in the wilderness," praise God! In May of 2003 Ed Reynolds aka: VOICE was diagnosed with a nerve disease called Multiple Sclerosis. M.S. has brought radical change in his life and despite the challenges the disease produces for VOICE each day, he perseveres
VOICE was born in Queens N.Y. on the east coast and moved to the west coast at age 12 and later witnessed a lot growing up. After receiving Christ at age 16 and later turning 21 he turned to the ways of the world..."I was searching...I was searching for something I already had," explains VOICE. Between the ages of 21 and 23 years old his life had more channels than a black box as he puts it in one of his songs... Totally jumping 2 feet into the world he saw the glitz and glam of "Hollywood," and the lifestyle that went with it. "I had to be in a club every night!", explains VOICE. At age 23, and after much prayer from his parents and home church, this brother came back to the Lord. Since then VOICE has been speaking a message of hope to the hip-hop culture wherever the door has been open. He has seen many lives changed through the power of God nationwide and has a passion to see young people encounter their God! Hip-hop is the tool that has opened that door
VOICE has been on, "Highway to Heaven" with Jeff Fenholt, the famed T.B.N host. He has done many station identifications on radio stations all over the U.S. and has had channel 2,5,7,11 and 13 news coverage of different outreaches all over Los Angeles, where many souls were saved with participation of this ministry. He is longtime tour mate of the group, "12th Tribe," including a full U.S. Tour back in 1997. He has also toured with the likes of, "FrosT," and long time brother's in the Lord, Metro One's "K2S" just to name a few. He continues to gain momentum as he was invited 2 years in a row to the longest running gospel festival in history, "Cornerstone." He rocked the crowd into a sweat, as Nsoul records put it at the rap stage in 1997, and 1998. He has rapped at well over 300 concerts on this journey and most memorably he ministered at the Southern Californian Foursquare Youth's Vision 2000 Summit. Over 2,000 young people were in attendance at this youth convention and was held at the land mark historic mother church of the Foursquare Gospel, "Angelus Temple," this was a true honor! VOICE now also holds a Pastoral license with this organization.
VOICE has shared the stage or done show's with too many artists to mention, but just a few are: T-Bone, Urban Disciple, L.A. Symphony, SUP-The Chemist, FrosT, 12th Tribe, K2S, Tonex, Pigeon John, John Rueben, Dirt, MG the visionary, Dr. Cheddar, Christsyde, Ahmad and 4th Ave. Jones, CL Ryderz, Unity Klan, The Tunnel Rats, New Breed, KJ-52, Knowdaverbs, Out of Eden, John Gibson, and also old Rescue Records label mate (from his 12th Tribe days)Atlantic Records recording artist POD.
In 1999, VOICE released his debut album,"Bow Ya Head" As Tha Voice under 4th Man Records. This company lost it's distribution but the record received great airplay with jams like, "The Beats Gone" his testimony hit. Also "Ear Candy," a funky old school jam featuring Smooth of K2S. This track was on the Christian MP3.Com compilation put out by Nsoul Records several years back. The album, "Bow Ya Head," was finished in late '97 but didn't hit airwaves until about March of '99. Needless to say very dated. VOICE has been in the lab since then spittin in the trenches and has also spent much time in the wilderness seeking God for the last several years. You have heard him on several guest slots on records like Metro One Records K2S, and Smooth Tha Messengers solo project. The song God In My Chest was featured on Urban Soldiers III compilation put out by Root/Rescue records and he has been interviewed by many hip-hop sites online including Hiphopzone.com, Hiphopgateway.com, and most recently WTWmagazine.com for the April 2003 GMA issue. A veteran to the microphone and ministry VOICE now has decided to release his newest record on his own label called Kerygma. What has been a journey of 5 yrs. in the making through ups and downs, he now gives us his latest offering to be released May 24, 2005 entitled Broadcast!.
The RecordBroadcast
With VOICEs tongue-twisting delivery, range of styles, including bi-lingual vocals, this record gives up something for everyone. The record Broadcast is like no other record that has ever sat on the shelf in Christ-centered hip-hop, in that it has more than 12 guest appearances of nationally distributed artists which include but not limited to: Smooth Tha Messenger, Cookbook and Uno Mas of LA Symphony, Redcloud, Epic, Jaz and DG of Unity Klan/Royal Temple, FrosT, CL Rhyderz, Kiz Charismatic, Coleon, and Wes Quave. This project focuses on the crux of a vision that will bring UNITY between all genres and mouthpieces of Christ-centered hip-hop music today. On this project you will see artists that never appear on the same record not just appear on the same record, but some even appear on the same song. This is a very big statement in itself and it has never been done to date. Broadcast! ranges from commercial West coast rap music, to nice crisp sounding East Coast hip-hop, and even a little bit of a Latin twist thrown in the mix featuring DG and Jaz of Eternal Funks Unity Klan, that is guaranteed to turn heads and saturate radio with the spicy element that it brings to this offering. About half the records production is served up fresh from ASCAP award recipient and #1 spot Billboard charter: D-Black. D-Black has produced and worked with the likes of many artists both secular and Christian ranging from Master P. and the 504 Boyz producing the platinum # 1 selling single Wobble-Wobble, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and the Doggies Angels project, Montel Jordan, Gerardo, Roger Troutman of Zapp, and Christian artists Brent Jones and the T.P. Mobb along with Deezer D of the hit television show E.R. D-Blacks production has also contributed to the music for the box office motion picture hit Barbershop starring Ice Cube and Cedric The Entertainer and currently putting finishing touches on offerings for the sequel Beauty Shop , which features Queen Latifah. The other half of this project is crafted and molded by the hands of Tribal Camp Productions-The New Order, who have produced artists: 12th Tribe, K2S, as well as one of the first radio singles to drop for the upcoming release from FrosT Party Goin On and is compiled of Rapps Galore of the 12th Tribe and co-production by VOICE himself. The last production note comes from Jaz of the strong hitting Unity Klan of Eternal Funk Records, and now called Royal Temple under Flying Leap Records. Jaz served up an addicting song for the album lending a very intoxicating Latin flavor called Latin Swing. A well-rounded record that has a nice bang to it! In a world where corruption, hate, and chaos has been accepted, VOICE delivers a message of UNITY along with the communication of a savior that has called him by name to let a dying world know that we can see the cloud if we desire it strong enough! Pick up Broadcast when it hits your stores this summer 05!
