Kalena are a five piece alt/indie band from Leicester and Nottingham comprising of Andy Cawrey (Guitar), Andy Cook (Vocals), Tom Kilsby (Bass), Paul Stewart (Guitar) and Nick Wale (Drums). Formed in 2002 Kalena have cut out a sound that really refers only to them. With a keen ear for melody and tune, their songs have acquired a cutting edge of heart and soul. Indeed, Kalena’s pop epics have metamorphasised within a dark, punchy, punky shell and have won the hearts of thousands across the country after two self funded UK tours and countless shows in every city in England. Word of mouth is strongest in the East Midlands, London, Manchester and amazingly enough Grimsby (!) with considerable support in Birmingham, Leeds and across the South Coast. Kalena have remained independent throughout this spell and have been compared to The Stone Roses in outlook and 'Editors filtered through the Libertines' in sound. Live shows are becoming more and more of an event, winning rave reviews across the country:- Sandman, The Fly, a whole host of city newspapers have all carried exalted live reviews on the unlikely heroes, as well as on a whole host of online forums and websites. The word is spreading, Kalena, a well kept secret waiting to burst out into the general consciousness of the general public.
