Spawned from the anarchist sound collective 'That's Not Music That's Just Noise', Sheepteeth developed at a regular Jam Night session in the Rhondda valleys. Primarily it's goal was to provide a rough blueprint to encourage different musicians to play with each other and produce interesting and dynamic music. A 'free-rock' methodology was adopted around the central idea of 'There's no such thing as a wrong note', which aimed to dispense with tiresome concepts of key and time signature in order to increase the play area and make the music more open to players of different abilities and backgrounds and also to try and encourage more females (who are sadly very lacking on the Rhondda music scene)to get up and play.

Story behind the song
The tracks are structured as 'modular improvisations' i.e. the songs progress as the players work through a series of roughly defined sound environments. A compositional process similar to that used by John Zorn in his 'Naked City' compositions, or Cathy Berberian in her seminal 'Stripsody'. But also bears a similarity to Captain Beefhearts storming Trout Mask Replica. They are tonally constrained but rhythmically free. The purpose of the drums and bass in these numbers is to act musically rather than functionally as in most rock music , thus activley contributing to the melodic flow of the tracks. Drummers and bassists have been the prison bitches of guitarists for too long. It's time for them to step out and heed the words of the great Ornette Coleman - 'The bass and drums are there to OPEN me up not BACK me up'. John Coltrane always raved over the dense Pan-rhythms of drummer Rashid Ali - as they presented him with an almost unlimited array of musical possibilities. In these particular Sheepteeth tracks the polyrhythmic approach also functions to increase the play space.
