Alternative Metal

Spawned from the anarchist sound collective 'That's Not Music That's Just Noise', Sheepteeth developed at a regular Jam Night session in the Rhondda valleys. Primarily it's goal was to provide a rough blueprint to encourage different musicians to play with each other and produce interesting and dynamic music. A 'free-rock' methodology was adopted around the central idea of 'There's no such thing as a wrong note', which aimed to dispense with tiresome concepts of key and time signature in order to increase the play area and make the music more open to players of different abilities and backgrounds and also to try and encourage more females (who are sadly very lacking on the Rhondda music scene)to get up and play.
Band/artist history
A history isn't the easiest thing to write, as the name 'Sheepteeth' applies to what are two very different bands. A studio band playing through composed music, and a live jam band focusing entirely on improvised rock. The influences evident in the two bands also differ. The power riffage of bands like Pantera and Sepultura are in evidence on recorded material, whereas the live shows tend to draw more from underground punk bands such as DNA, Painkiller, Last Exit and Fushitsusha. The two strands developed pretty much in tandem with the live element initially starting off nameless but then taking on the moniker of the recording band for reasons which are not wholly clear (probably because they contained the same members).
Have you performed in front of an audience?
Currently Sheepteeth is exploring how far you can get as a purely studio outfit. Sheepteeth did enjoy at limited run at a local jam night last year. A large part of the Sheepteeth philosophy was cemented by these gigs.
Your musical influences
Harry Partch, Arnold Schoenberg, Noam Chomsky, John Zorn, Captain Beefheart,Pantera, Avril Lavigne, Neighbours, Prisoner Cell Block H, Wrestling, Kraftwerk - it's basically a collison between tight rhythm and free solos. Being a collective Sheepteeth enjoys the input of members with considerably different musical outlooks.
What equipment do you use?
Guitars, Drums, Gamecalls, Fuck Trumpets, Saxophones, Double Membrane Vermin-o-phones, Robotickorders and Laptops.
Anything else?
Cheers to everyone who played with us during the live stints at the 'con' and the 'hotel'and who didn't make onto the records. Every gig was a massive learning curve, and definately the most fun I've had in 10 years of playing music. Death to the band scene!
